270 Weatherby magnum case dimensions

In all my other bottle neck calibres the fired cases is just a hair bigger than the full length sized cases, especially around the shoulder and neck.
In my 270 Weatherby I noticed that the fired case is noticably different. The neck radius is more forward and the case shoulder is rounder. The fired case will chamber, but the neck-sized case will not. I need to FL sized it. Is this the way the chamber is usually cut (on the higher side of Saami)? Or is my FL die machined to the minimum Sammi spec?
The gun, however, is reasonably accurate without much tinkering with the load. Tom

Are you using a neck die, or are you partial sizing with a full length die? You can actually make a case longer by partial sizing.

You're actually pulling the case neck and shoulder a bit longer with the expander plug. Get a collet neck sizer die OR lube the inside neck of every case you're going to run through the conventional die.

It's a bit of an unusual situation with a belted case, but this has worked for me in the past.

I full length size the case because otherwise it would not chamber properly.
The shoulder and neck is actually shorter than the fired case, not the other way around. Tom

I thought you said "The fired case will chamber, but the neck-sized case will not." See first post, or maybe clarify??

The fired case will chamber. But if I use the FL die to neck size, then the case would not. I guess somehow the body got sized to the point that the shoulder got bumped forward. I do not have a neck die.
Anyway I am not too concerned with the sized case. I am just curious why the shoulder and neck are visibly more forward in the fired case. Tom

That's exactly what I was getting at: If the inside of the neck is not lubricated the expander plug can pull the shoulder forward as it is being extracted. If the case has been fireformed to your chamber it will not chamber easily. If you only move it a couple of thou. you may be able to sorta size it back with the camming action of the bolt, otherwise you're s.o.l.
