I need some help picking a mount for my M14S. As I want to upgrade from the ProMag model I currently have on my rig.
I have narrowed it down to these but I would like some info on what the pro's and con's are from people who actually used these product's. Also the use of Iron Sight's is a must. As at some range's & event's that I attend the use of optic on the rifle are not allowed.

I have an ARMS18 on my current M14. Not a fan. The rail is so low that with some of my optic mounts you end up getting the spent casings jamming between the mounting clamp and the bolt with every single round. Not fun.

That said, I know some guys love these mounts for the very low profile, so as soon as deer season's over, my rifle and mount are going onto the EE.

The Bassett mount comes right off with its mounting bolt and installs with a supplied wrench to acheive proper torque, no messing around with the stripper clip. All the other mounts you show require removing the stripper clip and are in fact somewhat semi permanent installations, if you want to maintain zero. I would recommend the Bassett mount for your application.

X 2 on the bassett. I have it on mine. Never loses zero. Is a breeze to put on and take off. I am still able to use my irons too.

Sadlak

If you look at how they all mount its easy to see the best - Sadlak bar none.
The web site clearly shows how the mounting is the best on the market --

An Ultimak with a Sage stripper clip mount is also good as the scope bolts directly to the receiver AND the barrel ! With the advantage the Ultimak has of stiffening the barrel with its 3 or was it 4 barrel clamps.

Satain, whats wrong with your promag mount? It's one of the few thats available to us in NZ so just wondering if it's any good or not.
Nothing wrong with it just that I want to upgrade to something more reputable. Also the ProMag mount just won't seem right if I slap on a $1000 to $2000 optic on it & a kriger barrel.

Mounts can be a royal PITA, and they can be a hit/miss proposition. Sometimes you have to become an idiot like me and experience every single cheap mount only to discover that the Sadlak, Smith 2024, ARMS18, or Brookfield was the one that your rifle likes...

Then you end up tossing different receiver makers into the mix and that complicates the search for the 'holy grail' of scope mounts....

Not every single mount will work for every single CGNutter M14 lovers. Just be aware of this before you plunk down your hard earned after tax dollars...

I'm hoping I can help you save some money! or #### loss... :D

So since you tried all of these mount's wich one did you enjoy using the most Hungry or still using?
The ProMag is a nock-off of the A.R.M.S. mount so I don't see an issuse mounting it but the Smith one has a nice high mount so I can use medium ring's on my 56mm scope. Now the Sadlak mount is supper light weight but the Basset mount allows me to use my iron sight's while still having a scope mounted.
:runaway:
Ahhh!!!
I'm going bonkers!

Hey Barney.... you can send surplus mounts to me and my lovely wife... We'll test them on our M14s (my older model and her 2007 model) and provide details.

After all that goofing around with the mounts.... I settled on the ARMS18 mount, my favorite. I sold all the others. :D

Now I'm back to where I began 25 years ago... iron sights! No joking! All the optics are on my groundhog / 'yote gitters where I need them to be!
