Shooting Bags/Rests

If you are just going to use bags, it's best to make them out of the legs from a pair of jeans.

I cut them off long. Turn them inside out and tie off the cut end with wire or a tie-wrap. Turn them right side out, part fill with sand and tie off with a tie wrap. Leave enough past the tie wrap to use as a handle for carrying. I don't fill them too full as I like the bags to flatten out a bit so they are better for stacking. If they are too full, they tend to be round and too hard.

VR, If you're really serious about decent rests and bags, go to an adjustable front tripod rest, with a heavy steel base that is adjustable for level and height, with a proper leather rest that fits the fore end of the rifles being used. The rear bag should be leather, well packed with silica sand, bunny ear type. The total cost will be over $200 but you will never look back on old inner tubes and shot bags filled with beans and sand. The proper rests will have a huge impact on your shooting accuracy. I learned my lessons on this the hard way and only wish I had used them earlier, instead of baulking at spending the money.

corn cob media, beans, wheat are all to light for a proper rest.
