Conservation Officers Carry Sidearms!?!?

Last Thursday morning, on hwy 32, as we were heading home after working nights, there was a bull moose had got smoked. It had all its legs busted up but the damn thing didn't die, it was lying kicking in the roadway.

The cops had to come out and shoot it.

A gun is just a tool.

If you grew up in the time period that I did, in which every farm house in our area had a Cooey .22, invariably a M-94 Win in .30-30, a single shot Harrington-Richardson, maybe a .303... and all these were either standing in the corner or hangin on simple wooden rifle racks.

A gun is just a tool.

Nobody batted an eye. Nobody shot each other. All the ####ing homes were unlocked...

A gun is just a tool.

A handgun is just an under-powered, inaccurate, short range weapon. It shouldn't scare you.

more likely to get shot then a cop, poachers, disgruntled hunters, person with gun whose property your about to seize....

they should be armed to the teets

Here in BC I dont remember ever seeing a Conservation or Fisheries Officer WITHOUT a sidearm. Around here though they travel in numbers and have either a rifle or a shotgun in the truck (I've seen them thanks to knowing a few conservation officers around here on a first name basis).

:agree: X10

COs carrying handguns................. move along, nothing new to see here.

And as they should. Imagine meeting up with a few armed poachers way back in the middle of nowhere, no thank you...

I certainly support them being armed. It was fun when they let me try out their baby Glocks at the range during their qualifiers too.

As for CO's being armed, I own an old Iver Johnson revolver that was once carried by engineers on the CNR. Big deal...

It would be nice if we could all legally carry a sidearm in the wilderness.

Going back as far as the late 70's, I don't ever remember CO's not having sidearms.
Considering they usually work alone in remote areas enforcing the law with 'clients' that you would expect to be armed why wouldn't they have body armour and sidearms??

I always wondered why they aren't given hard plates instead of pointless soft armour (as mentioned, seeing as they are likely to encounter a rifle).

Changes thier attitude from nice guy co to clint make my day kinda thing. oh-- and around here from the looks of thier targets that they leave at the range the safe place is in front of the gun. lol

Impressive 4 pages before this usual dumb comment.

I don't even know why this is a subject worthy of discussion? Why would someone feel fine about the CO's having a shotgun or rifle, but object to them carrying a handgun? Other than the handgun being far less powerful, I don't see the difference.

If I was a CO way out in the back country I would also be packing a shotgun or a high powered rifle like my modified 21" barreled 375RUM.

CO's wear vests in case they have their sidearms forcably removed and turned on them they know that no vest will stop a high powered hunting round that most hunters carry.

This doesn't describe my experiences with CO's at all. Not the attitude, nor the slob habit of leaving targets all over the range, nor the level of competence with their sidearms.
