Anschutz 1517 D HB Beavertail .17 HMR - Ammo?

Here is my new Anschutz .17 HMR 1517 D HB w/ the Beavertail stock and Leupold VX-II 6-18x40 AO Target. Love this rifle! I took it out today for the first time in bad weather and shot 50 rounds of CCI 17 gr V-Max, just to zero my scope. I have never fired this rifle before and shot a four round 5/8" group @ 100 yds. I actually threw my fourth round when a guy shot off a .30 cal next to me and the real group should have been the smaller 7/16" group of three. I know once I get used to the rifle and break it in it will shoot at least 1/2" at 100 yds. It will be a gopher slaughter this spring. Does anyone have a similar Anschutz rifle and know what ammo it likes best?

Nice rig, and excellent accuracy , wonder if they come in the 54 action, and if it would out shoot the 64

The model 54 action is the 1717. It probably would outshoot a model 64 but not by much.

I have a 1717 HB with the 54 action and I love it. I shoot the 17 grain Hornady V-Max and they have shot so well, I haven't needed to try anything else.

I shoot the same ammunition as Bull's Eye (probably even the same lot as I get it at the same place as him) it groups really well in my 77/17. I was listening to a guy yesterday at WSS Edmonton telling a young fellow who just bought a 17HMR that the best ammunition is Hornady because they invented the bullet - I didn't have the heart to tell him that all the loads in 17 Gr VMAX loads in 17 HMR are produced by CCI with all the bullets being produced by Hornady with just different color tips.
