first i apologize if this has been covered (search wasn't working for me), but i have a Ruger Mark I, that i haven't cleaned in probably a couple 1000 rounds, it still works fine, and have never had a FTF, but it's uber dirty and the action is starting to get abit lazy. seeing as i have NEVER torn this thing down before (and have read that they can be somehwhat of a pain in the a$$), are there any recomendations (helpful hints) that youi guys can think of that i should know ?

thanks and cheers

If you really don't want to disassembly it you don't have to. You can spray all the gunk out of it with an aerosol solvent, scrubbing the interior with a toothbrush, cleaning the chamber and bore with a boresnake, and then re-lubricating the action.

That said, disassembly is not difficult. Read the instructions carefully, then read them again, and follow each step exactly.

Once you've done it twice, it's like riding a bike.

Make sure you pull the trigger when you reassmble so you arn't trying to comprss the hammer spring. read the instructions.

By the time it needs cleaning agian you will forget how to re-assemble...

I use a twist-tie (formed into a loop) to remove the mainspring housing from the grip frame.

I separate the receiver from the grip frame by pushing the rear of the receiver against a solid wooden bench. Later, I reconnect them by pushing the muzzle against the same solid wooden bench.

If you want to remove the grip panels you'll need a proper-fitting straight screwdriver.

Thats it.

thanks for the input...so basically...THOROUGHLY READ THE INSTRUCTIONS...THEN RE-READ THE INSTRUCTIONS !!lol

I've had a Mark III for 3 years and I have the instruction book open every time I clean. Works fine. Tried doing it without: works sometimes and then not. You forget how between cleanings.
