How to load 5 rounds in an SKS...

My 15 year old son figured out the 5 round load from the 10 round stripper back in April & showed me! Now if someone could just do a quickie on how to get the darn cleaning rod out of the forestock!!!! I can see how it looks like it should come out by flexing past the two little ear things but I was afraid of bending it. Is there a trick??? Probably something so simple I am overlooking it:D

Bayonet has to be partially out, I fought with it too lol.

I suck with stripper clips. PERIOD. Even with just 5 I can't seem to line it up right or something. Once in a while it works, usually I pull 5 off and click each one in.

Good video man,

I figured out the count 5 load 5 the first time out but I like the idea of loading 5 on to empty strippers for easy reloading. It is a good way to make use of the empty clips we all have kicking around.

Thanks for this. I sometimes drop #6. But in a rapid fire match I have a 5 shot clip waiting, not a 10, to keep it simple.

By the way, in the vid it looks like you rode the bolt handle down. You should let it fly, to make sure it goes into battery.

I'm about 50/50 on dropping the 6th round and would love to see this technique but the video doesn't seem to exist anymore. Could someone repost or describe it? Thank you.

There are 2 methods.
1. its 10 on stripper clip, insert it and just load bottom 5, press on 6th round from middle of the stack then remove stripper clip with 5 remaining for other reload
2. all 10 go in to magazine, just unlatch it and hold in the hand applying upward pressure, fire 5 while holding mag, then latch it on remaining 5

I didn't read this old thread, but my solution is to wrap the bare stem with electrical tape after loading 5. I use diff colours for SP, HP, FMJ to simplify organization in the ammo pouch I use. I also keep some clips 'full' of 10s, and can push in the bottom-5 if I wish, after using up the 'taped clips'.
