How many people are supporting them to win something? I understand, from the media, that they don't have enough .22 ammo to practice with. Is there somewhere to contact them to help? In the summer, you could go to whistler and see them shoot and try the guns.

How do we track the progress of the team?

Rob

Are you serious? Our Olympic team doesn't have enough .22 ammo to practice with? I would think the only way that would happen is that they are using match ammo that they now can't find. But hey.... it's Canada....

The source is CTV/Global/CBC. They all do stories from whistler showing shooters practicing. They all say they need money and shells to practice with. In the summer you could go and see them shoot and try the rifles yourself for a donation to the "cause".
Maybe we should pass the hat and buy the target ammo and practice ammo. We need to give them the chance to win.

as much as I want to support shooting sports.....

I'll be boycotting all that is 2010 Olympics. The BC & Canadian government should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such a gross waste of taxpayer dollars. Not to mention the havoc is has/will create for the aviation industry in the lower mainland.

in short: #### 2010

I think this is a pretty good straitforward cause, any ideas how to proceed? I'd rather not involve myself with the beaurocratic arm of the olympics... very little money donated to the olympic system ever reaches the athletes.

It'd be better to find contact them somehow, find out their needs and supply them or help them with them instead.

Fair enough, but don't forget, the athletes are the ones that we're helping here. Hate the Vanoc and Ioc all you want, but don't punish the athletes for the beaurocracy's failings. Competition is often all they really have, and boycotting the olympics as an objecting athlete gets you nothing.

From what I understand (correct me if wrong) - Cdn. gov't removed funding for biathlon. What happened to all of the Lottery money part of which was supposed to go for funding sports in Canada at the time of the inception of the lotteries. I guess that's the level of consideration the gov't. has for sports
unless it's one of the politically correct ones.
It's unfortunate that the biathletes are in the plight that they are, however this same situation is prevalent in all the shooting sports. Unlike our neighbours south of the border, shooting sports are not embraced with the same fervor in Canada. Also, a bit late in the day to try and put together a gold-winning perfomance now. The coaches should have anticipated this and projected resource needs earlier.

If they are using the good stuff for training, the shortages probably REALLY hurt them. Not only prices through the roof, but even if they had $$$, if the ammo isn't on the shelf..........
Yet another reason why Canada has to be one of the worst first world countries to be an amateur athlete (little gov't support, little/no recognition, etc). Other countries take much better care of their elite athletes. I realize it's not the highest budget priority, but there's a lot to be gained from having superior athletics progarms. If dominating the world, pays less than a full time Denny's assistant manager, well, anyone who gets the right shoe on the right foot more than 75% of the time can assistant manage Denny's, we need to make it worthwhile for these folks to stay focussed on their goals.

I'm with you man.

After getting only a 2% raise in the last 6 years and then having a legislated contract shoved down my throat this week by those liberal prycks. I want nothing to do with the olympics and won't support anything to do with them....shooting related or not.

I really and truly hate them. May all BC liberals fall off a cliff.

Briefly, Lapua GmbH, Germany, with our participation, sponsors Biathlon Canada for hundreds of thousands of .22 rounds.

The biathlon team gets lots of media attention, which puts shooting, usually maligned, in a positive light. It's great to see young athletes shooting, especially women.

Hirsch Precision wil continue to support the Olympics, as well as all recognized shooting disciplines.

Regards,

Peter

I think anyone who tries to make a political issue out of the Olympics, to the detriment of the athletes, is being very wrong-headed. Because you dislike the liberal government, and wish to vent your spleen on them, you'll allow the athletes to become collateral damage? Shameful.

Rob

I heard a woman from Northern BC on the radio the other day talking about how the Olympics is doing "sweet #### all" for her community......I also heard that Whistler's tourist economy (town of around 15,000) contributes one million dollars a day in revenue to the province of B.C.

Lot's of folks are complaining about the capital investment costs but most of this money is going into workers pockets as far as I can see, and BC is also getting federal money for projects that would not otherwise get donations from the rest of the Country.

The billion dollar security budget seems like a bit of "Olympic Gouging" to me, but the people who think all of BC's social issues would be solved if the Olympics were not coming need to pull their heads out of a dark moist hole.

I agree with Rob, the Olympics for me is about sport not politics.
I've always enjoyed the Olympic's and support the dreams of the athletes...I was not pushing for the bid but now that it's a done deal I figure we should try and enjoy the games, host a good party and look on the bright side.

Sure it's not all positive but it's not all negative either.

You can help in many ways

See what some trappers have done

Volunteer at a program. Here is a list of Provincal Divisions. They can hook you up with a group or a program...or you can start one in your area. Biathlon Bears the community development program is extremely well laid out and fun to impliment.

If your really stoked about biathlon I could post a list of links and videos or even make a sticky. Biathlon Is the worlds largest winter spectator sport...we just don't watch it.

I agree with your sentiment, unfortunately there are so many politicians who see the olympics as an opportunity for show-boating and political mileage only. They do nothing to further the development of amateur sport.
The most unfortunate thing is that the taxpayer will bear the burden of their(politicians) folly for years to come.

It IS a political issue! The people of Vancouver, and nobody else in BC, got to vote on this issue, but the rest of us will be paying for it for decades. This gov't has supported a 2 week party for the rich while shutting down schools (181 at last count), hospitals have been downgraded, emergency rooms hours cut, ambulance paramedics getting screwed over, legal aid has been slashed, and that, folks, is just the beginning. All because the BC Liberal gov't says we don't have the money. That's shameful.
And all because we're supposed to get a warm fuzzy if our guys are 1/100th of a second faster than the other guys.
f**k the Olympics, f**k the athletes (try getting a job that doesn't require the taxpayer to support you), and f**k Gordon Campbell and his entire gov't.
