I've added an ultra crappy video. Enjoy it and bask it in it's craptastic crapulance.

Well, I've hunted birds and critters for years but only recently have I lived someplace where there have been deer to hunt. So, while I am finishing my coffee and waiting to leave I thought I would post this note.

I love hunting and have done it all my life since my dad took me when I was 6 years old.

I thought, heck no big deal, just an other hunt but with new prey, well was I wrong.
Lastnight I was like a kid on Christmas eve, waking up and looking at the clock every hour. I did not even realize until this morning how excited I was to get out there. Kind of pathetic for a grown man :)

Kind of makes me wish I had kids to share it with. If you do, take them hunting.

Only got drawn for doe tags but that's ok, I could use the meat. I'll make sure i post pics when were back.

The only problem is my lab thinks I'm going to take her with me like I do for birds. She is already whining at the door with inpatient anticipation.
She is going to drive the wife crazy all morning.

Wish me luck.

Isn't that the greatest feeling, Pathetic? Naa, Good luck to you Roscoe.

Success!

I managed to bag and tag a good sized mulie doe. I am at work right now so I can't post the video. Will do later.

I was very surprised by the sheer number of other "hunters" out and about. Some of their conduct was really shameful. IMHO.
Like, hopping out of a truck on the road, unloading 5 rapid fire rounds at running deer over 400+ yards away. Hitting nothing, or possibly wounding them. Driving off and doing it again at an other bunch.
Made me feel a bit ill.

No wonder we had such a hard time getting close to any, they were really spooked.

Now, while driving a truck, who can tell if it's a doe or bucks running flat out at 1/4 mile ? I sure as hell could not do that.

Spray and pray is not cool, in my opinion.

On the plus side, I had multiple opportunities to bag some really nice mulie bucks. but no tags for them.

I saw tonnes of bucks. There is something funny about watching a big 4x4 buck through your scope, knowing you got him dead to rights, and letting him walk off. And not just once with one buck but like 5 times.
Wow, what a rush.

A very short video, due to dumb ass batteries, will be posted later.

Thanks to all for your luck wishes.

:agree:

Was out in SW AB yesterday, what a fiasco. Witnessed all the same, but also watched guys racing through fields to try and get ahead of fleeing deer, driving through fields where it is posted no vehicles, shooting off the hood and box of their trucks, shooting from the road allowance, ad nauseum.

The F&W officer is on his way to my house this afternoon to take a witness statement related to a group of particularly fine examples from our hunting community. I hope he fines the crap out of them, and takes their licenses for a year or two. Maybe then they will learn.

I was really surprised by just how many there were doing that crap.

Really, how the heck do you expect to hit AND KILL anything like that?

Ethics aside, the success rate must be very low. That probably leads to more frustrated and desperate shots.
