I am purchasing a pre 64 model 70 30-06 from the EE I have always been an admirer of this classic rifle and enjoy the heritage and craftsmanship that it has. I want to Mount a scope that will pay hommage to it's time and heritage The exception that I would make is using Modern optics STRICTLY FOR QUALITY. A gloss scope is a must I am thinking of a Leupold FX-2 in a 4x What other options might you suggest.:)

Here's a Leupold 2.5-8X mounted on my Pre'64 Model 70 Featherweight.

While it looks OK at first glance there are a few things I am going to change after the hunting season. The rear base will be swapped out for one that positions the ring between the screws and eliminates the overhang into the ejection port. I'll slide the scope back putting the start of the objective bell right next to the front ring..and, I may go one size lower on the rings themselves. This will give it a cleaner looking installation.

Pre-64 mod 70

There must of been Leupolds made back then, what were the models?
I bought a Scopechief around then, the model was the IV and had the comand post, still use it today 3-9x38. These are good scopes even by todays standards.

Sure a nice old Scopechief or one of the glossy 6x Banners, both of which I have. Should try then out on my pre 64 308 featherweight. FS
