i just acquired a new (to me) 10/22 with Butler creek heavy barrel and stock, i put a bipod on it and was looking for some ideas (on the cheap) for how to add a few modifications. are extended mag releases easy enough to change ?, not looking for anything to really change the appearance of it much (i like it how it is), but more to improve the functionalitly, any ideas, tips ?

anyways , heres a couple pics..notice the smiley face in the one target !!

thanks and cheers !!

Tuffer buffer, extended mag release, 1 pull bolt release.

These mods all improve the functionality....and are very easy to install. The 1 pull bolt release can be made quite easily with a dremel.

You may want to change out all or part of the trigger group....but then the money starts adding up.

eventually i will put a different stock on it (but this rifle is going to be a birthday present for my boy in may), what i am interested in , is a ext. mag release and a kit/part to lock the action open upon empty mag. this is my first 10/22 , and i'm really enjoying it (although i've ony had a chance to have one range day with it so far, but i'm going to try to get it out tomorrow.......without the boy knowing)....he doesn't go in the safe !!LOL

yeah, i have noticed that the bolt release isn't real user friendly..it CAN be done with one hand...but is awkward to say the least !!!

I don't think there is a cheap easy bolt hold open mod for the 10/22...it will always close on an empty mag.

IIRC, it can be done, but you need modified or more expensive magazines and maybe some other modifications.

oh well.....not really a problem, i just figured if it could be done......but regardless.....really liking the new toy....almost a shame i have to give it to the boy (although he'll only be 10, and it will be in my name AND my safe for many a year yet !!!)...that and the wife knows that i bought it for him...so she's making me give it to him and not just keep it for myself !!!......OH $HIT.....MY WIFE IS MAKING ME GIVE OUR SON A RIFLE !!!!........things could be worse !!..bless her heart hahahaha

Volquestrian precision extractor IS A MUST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE! you will rarely ever have another jam again with it, whats the point of the other mods if the gun jams so often? (atleast all 3 of my 10/22's did before the extractor)

where would be a good place to source this from (i'm from chatham ont.) ?, cost ?

did anyone try hornetproducts.com? I just got a factory replacement trigger housing from them. They do not do free shipping like hawktech, but they do carry a huge amount of replacement parts that the others don't.

I'm so sorry to here that happened to you :(; I ordered from them about a month ago and it came within a week of the order date....:dancingbanana:

I cant agree anymore with you! Rimfire sports did free shipping plus I got my goods super fast. Dealt with them numerous times and every time I was thoroughly satisfied.

Here is the link for 10/22 parts, They shipped to me in Canada, no problem and yes so very correct on Volquartsen exact edge extractor, part number VC10EE/VC2EE , this and the target hammer number VC10TH makes a world of difference, no more jams and about a 2 1/2 trigger pull. I love the 10/22
total cost $45.00 US http://www.rimfiresports.com/

Oh yeah, I forgot the VQ extractor, it is a must.

I ordered all my stuff from rimfiresports with no problems, but that was a while ago now.

Don't worry about your loss of the 10/22 to your kid, your wife making you give it to him.....you could do worse :)
