Hello!
Say, in average, how much would you value an original .280 Ross Sporter in very nice shape, barrel and chamber near new with very clean hand-checkered wood and schnabel fore-end?
One of my friends sent me a message about it and I'm very much tempted.
PP. :)

What does it have for sights? I say $350.00 to $750.00. Someone on the board recently sold a very decent one for $200.00....within the last 4 weeks. I'm also looking for one so if you don't do the deal....send me a picture or 2 to my email. Thanks. Ron

I bought the rifle mentionned. I think it will make a dandy shooter. Bore is better than good, barrel full length. Checkering is worn, stock has had a heavy coat of varnish applied. Wasn't even disassembled before being varnished. I think it will respond well to being stripped and redone.
All three original sights are gone. Scope bases have been installed. One replaced the Porter peep sight (dovetailed into the rear bridge), the other is screwed to the receiver ring. That one is a bit wonky, but I think adjustable rings will take care of the problem. I can't use irons all that well anymore, but would never alter a collectible rifle for scope mounting. This one has already been set up for a scope, so that problem is solved. I'd like to mount a classic scope that would be appropriate for an older sporting rifle. Something like a Lyman Alaskan would be ideal, or a German scope from the '20s or '30s. Plan on altering .300 H&H brass to make ammunition.

Glad you ended up with this one ####...I know you will do a good job on it. I thought it would be a great restoation project. My thoughts were about the same as yours. Ever want to part with it pls ge in touch. Ron
