This is not quite your situation, but I'll retell it for you anyway.
I enquired with the CFC about simply borrowing one for a week and obtaining a stATT to transport it from the lender's house to mine, then subsequent range trip(s), then back to his house. I needed to do this because we couldn't get to the range together anytime soon.
The CFC kid told me you couldn't borrow a restricted or prohib. Then said I should just go to the range and swap, and that he tells everybody that. (wow confilicting information or what) I said, no, I want an ATT that lets me pick it up at his house etc. He said that he couldn't do that. I said that the Firearms Act clearly states that I can borrow any type of firearm as long as I'm PAL'ed for it. I asked him to show me which section said I couldn't do that with the restr/prohibs. He promptly said he'd get his supervisor. After he came back, he said he'd transfer me.
Turns out, he actually transfered me to the Ontario CFO office where I spit out my story. The lady promptly asked me the period I wanted to borrow it for. She typed in the information and gave me an ATT number on the spot, faxed a copy in 10 min, and popped the orig print in the mail.
The terms of the ATT basically state it can go from that guys house to the range and back. She said that it can't really state multiple places, and that this would be fine for the initial pickup and take back with my house and let me take it to the range. She suggested I get a letter from the lender stating his permission, and to make sure I had the reg cert with it. That stATT specifically has his reg number on it, and has the purpose as "borrowing a firearm".
My normal ltATT actually says "ALL RESTRICED FIREARMS REGISTERED TO THE RESIDENCE OF THE AUTHORIZATION HOLDER", so technically it doesn't really allow me to transport borrowed guns. This seems a little more specific than some other texts I've heard of that basically say firearms I'm holding - thereby permitting me to swap at the range.
So, basically I picked up the handgun and will take it a couple times this week to the range, and drop it off on the weekend again. The request, once I got hold of the ATT person in Ontario CFO, was incredibly painless, and I would do this again for any borrowing I'd like to do.
With luck, you could speak with your CFO ATT person and explain this ongoing permission you will have to borrow the firearms. May be some letter required from the lender, but there's nothing that says you can't borrow a firearm. The trick is that you may or may not be technically authorized to transport it, depending on your ATT wording.
Good luck to you, and Happy Shooting!
