Does anyone have any experience with this revolver in 45acp? are the new reproduction any good or just pricey? how do the orginal ww1 and ww2 compare? Are moon clips needed to shoot 45acp, and can 45 auto rim work in them also?

I've had a WWI era S&W revolver in .45 ACP / .45 Auto Rim as well as a S&W Model 25-5 target in the same. The old Smiths had a very long action trigger pull, plus the sites were fixed. The 25-2 had the modern "N" frame action and had an adjustable rear site. As well the barrel on the 25-2 was heavier than the old one. Needed moon clips of some sort to reliably shoot .45ACP. The .45 Auto Rim shot very well in them as well. I don't have either now, though.

I have handled but not shot the new S&W revolvers meant to be the 'repro' of the M1917 wheelgun. Personally, I was not too impressed with the fit & finish compared to the real deal revolvers of yesteryear. And yeah, they are pricey.

NAA.

I have one those old "Brazil" jobs. 1935, I think. It is essentially the Model 1917. With "moon" clips, they work great, and are fun to shoot. Mine is definitely not of "collector" quality.:p
