Anything even slightly interesting happening in the milsurp world? Come-on there has to be something in the works?

I'm not bored

Well gentlemen...Chanukka came early for me this year. The last 2 milsurp's I've acquired have gone far beyond my expectations! The first one, I bought over the phone as a czech VZ24 converted to K98 configuration. When I received it, I saw that it had seen some use; but on the ring of the receiver are 2 Israeli acceptance stamps. Not only that, but the rifle is still in 8x57mm. There can't be too many of these that escaped the calibre conversion. Other notes are : winter trigger guard configuration, matching sn's, and post war stock with hand grooves and without a cleaning rod hole.
The second rifle I got was in beautiful condition, IDF crested .22 trainer built on a commercial FN receiver. Regretfully I still have not mastered the computer/camera combo or I would post pics. RF

still workin on my build, hope to have er up an running december-january ish, ready to be sent in for approval (I think dlask is giving me a hand with this?). Receiver still requires some machining to it, as you can see my machining capabilities are... "rough"

Still missing a couple parts, will see if i can get em from marstar or convince someone to salvage em off their dummy gun ? I'll deal with that when i get there, just busy welding away right now, mating front and rear halves sooner or later..

You still bashing your head over that???

Sure hope you are successful....
Yeah , finishing it is the easy part, i know that getting it approved will be the harder task, but with dlask's connections, im hoping this will push the odds to favor me a tiny bit.

I've had a reweld Garand in the back of the safe for years. I picked it up at a gun show back when I had more money than brains, and hadn't heard of a rewelded receiver.

I've just pulled it apart, and the barrel that I had discounted as junk doesn't look that bad. It's a 1944 2 groove Springfield. I think I may keep my eyes open for a serviceable SA receiver, and do a rebuild. Most of the other parts seem to be in good condition, aside from the parts that were mauled to fit the receiver.

I'll add this to my project list, which includes a stripped Breda Garand receiver that i want to barrel with a nice Danish specimen.

Where do you Garand guys hunt for parts, aside from the EE?

I just bought an all matching Gewehr 71/84 that is still in its original military configuration for cheap. Can't wait until I bring her home.

Yes, I'll have to keep an eye on the EE for the receiver. I thought that might be the case with the small parts. How is Numrich to deal with?

Pretty easy, just order online, a word of caution though - make your order worthwhile as they have a international shipping charge of $25 IIRC. Basically don't use it just to order one or two small parts. They ship quickly and I've never had any problems dealing with them.

I have got one of the Breda receivers, and a Danish barrel, but at the time I posted this, I thought I could restore a wartime rifle back to shooting order with a wartime receiver, if one could be located.

however, my '44 SA barrel isn't really a '44 SA barrel...

It turns out that there were no two groove Garand barrels made for US military service. In another post I received information from purple that what I have is a barrel that has been relined with a Springfield 03A3 barrel, and shooting with that barrel is as iffy as shooting a re-welded receiver. So my SA project has died, but at least I haven't wasted anything more than a couple of hours.

In light of this, I think I'll scavenge the SA for parts, and build on the Breda with the VAR barrel.

That's too bad about that rifle. If it were mine, I think I would deactivate it and turn it into a wall hanger, at least then it would serve some purpose. Scavenging it for parts is just as well, I suppose you could do a bit of both as long as it looked the part on the outside.

You are bored? The last three gunshows down here were a waste of time! AR15 accessory mart, Glock factory outlet, chinese flashlights, Beef jerky, coins, and that about covers it. The really interesting stuff is so overpriced, that I don't even bother to ask about it anymore. Oh yeah there is one guy from the U.K. with nice stuff BUT he thinks everything he has is worth it's weight in gold bullion.

I really don't want anymore guns, just looking for small things and they are non-exsistant.

Never thought US gun shows would end up like Canadian gun shows . :D

I finally figured out who I sold Grampa's No1 MKIII to and he is happy to send it back thankfully. Don't know what I'll do with it but it will hold a special place in my safe from now on. One of the more foolish things I ever sold, even if the bore is gone.....

This winter I hope to get the Metford to shoot a little better too.

I have this 1896(?)Krag Carbine I need to figure out what to do with. I drew up plans for a Griffin&Howe style side mount base for it to use my Garand style scope mount with. Prior owner D&T'd it (not me!) This gun shoots 220gr Hornadys MOA!

The old Vetterli is begging to be shot too but I need to get the rear sight figured out.

So really, lots of dreaming and not much action right now.
