In order of appearance:

Savage 12FVSS in .308
Marlin 336 in 30-30
M14 in .308
Savage 99 in .308
Remington 788 in 22-250

Although the Savage is a freaking heavy beast with the scope I prefer it in case of shots distancing past the 150 yd mark. The most accurate gun I own.

The Marlin is strictly a heavy brush gun. I don't like taking shots past 100 yards with it. Since getting contacts I can't seem to focus well with iron sights on farther shots.

The M14 has taken game but I don't want to depend on it too much. Plus it's pretty heavy for a long hike.

The Savage 99 is a great light rifle but it's not mine so I only use it if something is wrong with my others.

The Remington 788 is a very light rifle, even with the scope. It's definitely capable of taking down large whitetails. I took my first rifle whitetail (5x5 buck) with this gun. It worked the same as the muzzleloader and bow that I used to take down my first two deer with. Yes 22-250 might be lighter than some like but it's all about placement and I don't think that buck could tell whether it was hit with a 22-250 or 50 BMG.

I like being prepared.

Yes I always bring a backup rifle.
My main deer rifle since 1980 is a Winchester 94 in 30-30.
Its never acted up or given me any problems but Murphy's law and all dictates I also take my
CZ 57 in 7.62x39 just in case.
I've actually taken quite a few deer with both rifles.
I like to switch rifles once in a while just to mix it up a little.

I usually Take my M1 Garand as my sec rifle as we usually camp 3 or 4 hours away from civilization, but this year we are going only 2 hours away from home. So if I roll the quad or drop it from the tree stand I can come and get my backup in 1/2 of a hunting day.

If by hunting camp you mean 'the family farm'

Primary: Savage 111 .270 (great shooter)
Secondary: SKS (medicore shooter but having to get close is half the fun)
Tertiary: Shotgun (this year it's a Benellie Nova, last couple years been a Maverick 88)

Yup! Stuff happens:(

I bring a back up when I go moose hunting. Our camp is 8-9 hours drive from my safe. For deer I don't as I'm less then an hour from home and the landowner has more guns than you can shake a stick at. A loner is an option.
For yotes, groundhogs, geese....I'm 5 minutes from home....

my back up gun is ... 20" 12g SXS with some buckshot/slugs... never know... also an axe and two nives are the must. I modified my backpack to fit a coach gun by adding a nice home made scabbard on a side of the bag for quick release ... also thinking to shove a spring in there.... so the gun jumps out a little as soon as you open the strap..

Always have.... always will.
Learned my lesson many years ago.

Now always have my Mauser 7x57 and Pre 64 70 - 30-06 for back up.

No matter where Im hunting (unless its on my own land) I bring an extra gun, eaither as a backup for what Im hunting or to pass time in the chance that I could fill my tag the first day or two lol. For our yearly Manitoba moose hunting trip I bring:
- Rem .300 (for moose)
- Win .270 (back up moose)
- Ithica 12ga with spare 20ga barrel (for grouse and trap)
- Cooey .22 (to kill fun stuff like squrrels)

Pretty much the same thing goes for our yearly bear hunt in Thunder Bay.

Same goes with bow hunting deer. Ill have my old bow in the truck.

Even hunting waterfowl Ill have an extra shotgun in the truck. I dont want to have a prefectly good day ruined by a gun malfunction
