Does anyone have any information regarding Remington warranty?

I have a Rem 700 XCR in 338wm thats about a month and a half old.
It has about 100 rounds down it so far and I noticed yesterday at the range
that there is a 1.5-2 inch crack along the top of the stock.

It starts next to where the butt pad meets up and its pretty much next to the injection mold line in the plastic stock.

I've already tried the Remington toll-free number but the office is closed for "staff training".

I bought the gun from Lebarons in Montreal but I'm located in Calgary.

I'd rather deal with Remington directly instead of trying to send the gun back to Lebarons or having to deal with the monkeys at WSS or Russels (since I didnt buy it there).

bad deal man, i just took mine back to the original place i bought it and they sent it away to quabec. it was sent to Gravel Agency a contractor of remington i think. i have the number if you want it .

they should just send you a new stock if you send them the defective one...no need to ship the complete rifle....but, that may be too simplistic for a corporation to grasp....

Del Selin is listed as a Canadian Repair Center, I would contact them first...

I would contact Remington first to find out how they want you to handle it --- be sure to tell them you're preference.

I had warranty service involved on a Marlin pruchase (now Remington). I was asked to send the rifle to the western service center (Reliable Guns in Vancouver), who ended up forwarding the rifle to Gravel Agency (Remington service).

Gravel were good to work with.

I was planning on replacing the stock anyways so its not such a big deal except the time it takes for a new stock to arrive.

I'd still like to have the stock replaced incase I ever decide to sell it or even just use it on another rifle.

It kind of sucks since I'm really enjoying the gun and just starting to get some good results with my load development.

Kind of funny how that goes. Bad results make me want to get out to the range more, and good results make me want to get out to the range more.

I'll keep everyone updated.

Mike.

Well that was a waste of time. Just talked to Del.

He said the only way he'll do remington warranty work is if I pay then chase remington down for the money.

Apparently they havent had any contact with Remington for a few years because Remington wont pay them for work they do and he doesnt care for the hours of paperwork that's required.

When I asked if he knew anyone who did Remington warranty work. He said he didnt know anyone dumb enough to do it.

Nice.

Guess I'll start with Remington first.

Mike, you could try Saskatoon Gunsmith Shoppe in Stoon - they're an authorized Rem repair centre.

gunsmithshoppe.com/

If you do need to send it there I'm sure some of your cousins or uncles could help out, lol.

I'll give them a call today. I'm also goign to try calling Remington directly.

Good think I know some people who drive to Stoon every day for work. :)

Well the guy in Saskatoon was even less helpful that the guy from BC.

He said he doesnt want to deal with anyone who lives outside of Sask because he's already too busy.

He said that since I bought from a "big box store" (Lebaron) that I wont get any service and I should have bought it locally.
I said which store locally WSS or Russels (who's currently in the process of emptying their store and is already owned by WSS's parent) should I have bought the rifle from th receive better service?

He said, where is Lebaron? In Ontario or something? I said. Montreal. He was still a bit confused..so I said..Quebec.

I wont bore you with the rest of the idiot ramblings he had but the idea was, go deal with someone else.

When I called Remington directly they suggested call Gravel. I'll spend the day calling them and hopefully get through eventually.
No luck so far.

Is today (Friday the 13th) a provincial holiday in Que? There has to be a reason they dont answer the phone.

Wow, sounds like your having a lot of fun playing phone tag... I'm not sure what to think of the reactions you've received. On one hand, it is a legitimate comment that if you want "local" service you should buy locally. On the other hand, the lack of tact and general unhelpfulness sure wouldn't endear me to want to spend money at those shops. That being said, phone conversations, like discussion forums, are often completely different than face-to-face, so YMMV.

My experience with the "local" Remington service handler in Western Canada was anything but pleasant, and although they are supposed to have a good reputation amongst members here, I was so disappointed in their attitude that I decided to never shop there again (and I told them as such).

Here's what I would try if I were in your shoes:

1) Try again to contact Gravel, and if possible get the name/extension of a real person.
2) If by Tues/Wed you still haven't made contact with anyone in Canada, give Remington a call again. Explain the situation and your frustration and see if you can get a hold of one of their field sales/service reps... that's what I did and the rep got things rolling in a big way for me.

Alternatively, if you feel comfortable installing a new stock yourself, why not ask Remington to just send one to you? Take a picture of the crack and email it to them so that they can see the problem.

Good luck,
Stirling

Yes, I agree sometimes those small shops with the attitude do not help out. So much for the 'personal touch' you should get out of a local shop. I was in a small shop a couple of weeks ago and the attitude was terrible. Talked down to me like a child when I had questions and didn't seem that eager to engage in discussion. When I brought out my debit card he perked up, but I was put off enough, that I put it away and let him know where I would buy a similar rifle he had on his shelf. He looked at me with a blank stare and my response was, "I have money to spend , but you don't seem that interested in helping me. " He said nothing, I left and 3 days later, spent $800 elsewhere. And it was not WSS.

Buying the rifle at a smaller shop is kind of a moot point. They wouldn't get any better service from the warranty places, and likely would not replace the rifle after a couple months of shooting...This industry is full of dicks...

Try this number for Gravel... 1-866-682-3003

Thanks for the number Brad.

I just got ahold of someone at Gravel. She's going to email me a
bunch of forms to fill out and let me know what the next steps are.

It's a step in the right direction at least.

On another note, those Hornady Interbonds seem to shoot really good in the rifle. Definately better than the Gamekings I was testing prior.

I'd kind of like to smack a doe with it this year just to see how it performs.
