Sorry for the off-topic.
So... what's with the pistol grip on that first pic? Never seen one like that before.
The grip on the picture is Monster Man grip, specifically to comply with California Assault Weapon ban.

They do some really weird and wonderful things in California to work around the AWB.
http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf identifies what qualifies as an Assault Weapon in Commiefornia. Definitely worth a look, if only for comparison.
Here is another example of what they do in California in order to have a legal weapon, this one from

Sorry, not pink guns. Idea of this one is no thumbhole, and no pistol grip (both are evil assault weapon features), so you could have drop-free mags (another evil assault weapon feature). Only one evil feature is allowed per gun, if you have two or more, it's an assault weapon. Flash hiders and forward pistol grips are also no-no.
There is a whole legal caboodle about otherwise having a "bullet button" mag release in order to drop your mags (since bullet was ruled to be a tool), since drop free mag is one of the evil assault weapon features.
Yes, California laws are even weirder then Canadian ones.
XCR folks can probably expand on what they did in order to sell XCRs in California (no pistol grip and no foldable stock, IIRC).
P.S. Linking to the MMG and CR, since I doubt anyone in sane mind would want those features where they don't legally have to have them. Plus AFAIK neither exports.
