My dad gave me his old Lee Enfield but we are still looking for the clip and the bolt action because he hid them somewhere but we will find them soon. My question is there is a little rust on the barrel and I want to make sure it is safe to shoot before I take it out. I want to make it look good too. Does anyone know any good gunsmiths who know their old riffles well. I live on Vancouver Island in the Duncan area. Thanks boys.

Patrickshot,

I am in the middle of no BS researching, I can say if you end up using a non matched bolt, you could end up with split brass in the chamber. Check your head spacing fore sure :)

Most rifles and bolts had matching serial numbers. If matching, headspace should be ok. If bolt head is unscrewed, bolt will not close in action. If in doubt, have it checked. Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Fine steel wool with oil should remove light surface rust. Clean rifling thoroughly.

A problem today

There are lots of folk who have NEVER encountered corrosive primed ammo and think they can put off cleaning untill the next day, next week, next month.
