Does anyone have experiance with trailcams i bought one today, will wind moving the tree or nearby branches set it off? how long battery's usually last? what temp range do they quit operating?

I cam mine up with grass and what not. One evening a blade blew in front of the motion sensor so I had 20 some shots of a piece of grass.

I use cheap batteries from the dollar store. They last about a week in the cooler weather (-2 being the coldest)

Mine has not stopped working due to temperature, but I am sure -20 would drain the life right out of d cells.

There is a couple threads on this topic if you do search.

I make sure there is no brush or branches in my cams field of view, to prevent getting tons of nothing shots. As for batteries, my Moultrie gets at least 1000 pic's before I need to change them using Duracell batteries, however, I have never used my camera when it gets real cold out. Mine stays out from July to Nov. so the coldest it gets is around -3 degrees.

Check out this site, they have tons of info and reviews.

It is actually heat that sets them off not motion. Thats why your not supposed to point them towards the rising or setting sun. I believe that grasses and leaves set them off because they are reflecting the sun's heat.

No, they have a motion sensor that triggers the camera. Maybe you're thinking of the cameras that are equipped with infrared lights and those are infrared LIGHTS not infrared SENSORS.

All of todays cams use a PIR sensor or Passive Infrared Sensor.

This is from the FAQ on the Moultrie site.

Does my camera have a motion sensor?
Answer: It has an infrared sensor that detects changes in temperature, such as an animal’s body heat. It must sense a change in temperature to trigger the camera. A limb or other inanimate object will not trigger the camera.

Sounds like technology has come a long way in the last few years on those cameras, I stand corrected.

What type do you have?I have 3 Moultrie cams. Two are 4.0,the other is a 5.0 camo.I also have 2 Wildview 1.3 mp cameras. The Wildviews are terrible for limbs setting them off.A grouse won't set off my Moultries, but raccoons and larger will.

I use a Bushnell Trail Sentry 4.0 that I bought from Canadian Tire. It produces decent pictures even at night, and you cant beat the 100$ i payed for it.

I tried 2 different trail sentry cameras, they both sucked would not flash to get pics at night.I had 8 pics taken in one night all were black screen. Bought a moultree am going to check it tomorow

I have a moultrie D4...I use the side plug and a 12 volt car battery....It works and lasts about 8 weeks before I changed the battery and recharge the other...thousands of pictures taken....I have since removed because of the shotgun hunt, but have to go put it back up for the rest of the bow season....
