After much work a year ago to work myself down from 5 hunting rifles to one(sensible me) a nice Consignment Sako 85 Bavaria 30-06 started whispering to me this morning at P&D...damn Phil and Diane.

My new Toy

Special thanks to the Old guy in PQ who decided to put his collection on Consignment at P&D. Lots of cool stuff, Sako's, Cooper's and some other cool stuff

I know how you feel Martin,when I had my eye problems,I went from 22 guns to 1.Now that the eye problems seem to be resolved,at least for now,I am back to 5 guns.However,if Cooper releases an all stainless 52 barreled action,I will be doing some more buying and selling.

True, I've had lots over the years, 3 75's, 2 AV's, 1 A1, and an L61...all beautiful rifles.

that 85 Bavarian in 9.3 x 62 would have "soul" to me, and I have 6 old sakos to compare it to.... I'd say you found a real nice rifle.

Oh Yeah, but that would have cost $20k more than I paid for this as I would have had to go to Africa and shoot a buffalo with it...lol

Thought I would update my new baby.

Sold the Ti, mounted my old standby Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40 that has been on at least a dozen rifles over the past 7-8 years(thks to RickF) and went to the range with a box of Winchester pp's to make some once fired brass. Results were bad, vertical stringing galore, starting to wonder if I should have sold the Ti so fast.

Firgured I would work at it a bit. Took the rifle apart, found some white goop around the recoil area and on the main action screw, cleaned that all off, cleaned the barrel right down to the metal first with Shooter's Choice and then with Barnes CR-10 and load some tried and true loads. 165 gr hornady spire point, H4350 and a fed 210m primer.

Went today to the range, 55 grain loads show promise, 56 better two very close and the third inside 2 inches, 57 better again, 57.5 under an inch, 58 .566 and .621 inches.


I guess I'll keep it and I am off on the last day of the season tomorrow to try and fill my whitetail tag with it. Hopefully I'll have some Sako Bavaria/big Whitetail #### to share this time tomorrow.

Why would anyone want to olny have 1 hunting rifle

I have about 40 rifles but of them there are really only 5 dedicated hunting rifles, the rest are milsurp of target rifles. I like choice

But that is a fine looking rifle you have there.

Nice Sako.....I was always told to beware of a man with only one rifle...keep the TI . Personally I never leave for any kind of hunting trip without a spare rifle.
