Good morning all, I bought the following for the action for a build and then realized as I went through it that it is all matching serial numbers and in pretty good condition so am having second thoughts. Anyhow the rifle is original with the following:

The rifle is now listed in the equipment exchange, thanx for every ones assistance!!

Front receiver ring:

WAFFENFABRIK
MAUSER A-G
OBERNDORF A/K
1914

Left side of action:

Gew 98
Serial # 78###

Barrel is 29 3/16" long with the full wood stock, cleaning rod etc. Sorry no bayonet came with it.

The blueing is complete under the stock but worn on top.

thanx for any help folks can off as to its value. Yes it may be for sale!

Yeah, post pics, condition is everything. If it is a complete, matching Gew98 I would think it would easily fetch $750+ (maybe upwards towards 1K if it is real nice) depending on the condition. Lots of guys seem to be looking for matched examples of these.

If the bore is decent, Can$1200 minimum. In the US, $1000-$2000. I saw a mismatch in the same condition, go for $800 this spring.
Complete, unbuggered GEW 98 rifles are rare as hens teeth. Most were arsenal converted and surplused, sportered between the wars. Many ended up in the Soviet Union as well.

I picked mine up for $750. Details are that it was all matching (except nose cap), had better bluing, but light pitting in the grooves. Had an argentinian mauser nose cap and bayo with scabbard.

What's the bore like on yours? Overall pic?

The pics look good to me, no duffle cut on the stock either? I bet you could get 1K for it. Maybe more if you had a motivated buyer. Nice rifle!

Thanx for everyones reply's, very much appreciated!! The bore is good to very good condition. My kids have all had the safe freezer course and its a registered freezer so you can all sleep easier with that knowledge!! (grin) The gun was purchased from our local gun shop, as stated before it was just the action I was after but thinking I will sell the 98 complete and go another direction.

Rifle is now listed in the equipment exchange

I saw one sell on zfarm for 900 and we had an all matching piece with bayonet for 1200 on the EE a month back.

Very nice.
I love the Gew98.
