Okay thought I would make a thread since many people have messages me regarding my Refinishing.
Things you will need all found at the local Home Depot :
Heirlooms paint stripper
Wood stain of your choice "I recommend varathaine gel-stain#611 for Russian factory look"
varnish of your choice "I recommend Clear-Gloss Gel varnish "
Small bowl for your Heirlooms
Paint thinner
Steel wool
100 fine grit sandpaper
Fine paintbrush one inch in width
and plenty of soft cloth old T-shirt will do.
Step one:
Remove stock from the firearm
Step two:
Prep your Heirlooms in your small bowl make sure to shake well before use!
Step three:
Apply Heirlooms to wood stock make sure to spread evenly, let sit for 2 minutes
Step four:
Use the steel wool and remove the heirlooms keeping in mind to go WITH the GRAIN on the stock!
step five:
Once Heirlooms has been removed use your paint thiner and using a Soft towel and wipe the stock clean and let dry for about an hour.
Step six:
Make sure all previous materials have been removed from the stock otherwise repeat steps 1-5.
If all is as desired begin to sand down the stock were it looks to be rough be gentle and go with the Grain! or you will end up with scratches you don't want.
Step seven:
clean with paint thiner or a damp cloth with warm water and letsit to dry for an hour.
Step eight:
If you would like to darken the wood use a heat gun to darken it prior to staining.
Step nine:
Stain the wood for original finish.
Using varathaine Gel Stain #611 apply a generious amount of stain stock using your brush and let sit for five minutes and then wipe the stock with a soft cloth.
Apply a second coat and let dry for five minutes, then use a lightly damp cloth and wipe off the stock again.
Finally apply a third coat and let sit for five minutes and then wipe clean.
Let sit and dry for 6 hours.
Step ten:
Apply your varnish with your brush and let it dry for 6-12 hours then light sand it and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Finally apply your last coat of varnish and let sit for 24 hours or until fully dry.
and that should be it.
I'll take some pictures of mine in a few hours to give you a taste mind you I only used two coats of Stain on mine.
