Hey guys,

I just bought a Remington 870 Express magnum and my plan is to build an open shotgun out of it for 3 gun matches. Here's the plan so far:

-Remington 870 Express magnum 28 inches barrel;
-Speedfeed stock and pump;
-Side saddle(holds 6);
-10 rounds mag tube extension;
-Arredondo speedloader assist;
-Armtech speedloaders.

Now, one question: Wich optic should I mount on it. I thought about the Eotech but it might be a little bit to high. The best option would probably be the JP Enterprises JPoint or a Docter Sight but I'm not sure about the availability of the last two. Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion or an idea, please let me know.

Thanks for your help,
JP.

Look into the E 512, not real big and bulky and really does nt seem obtrusive when mounted, plus you cant beat the toughness :D

If you can't find a Jpoint or a Docter...what about a C-More STS (Small Tactical Site) Freedom Ventures sells them...

...or a Burris Fastfire from Lebaron. They also have a special shotgun mount for it.

Hey JP, are you moving away from production? If you'll continue with your CZ, it will be scored against Open handguns. Do you really need to give that advantage?

JP, you might want to go a bit shorter on the barrel, say a 24" and add a bit with a compensator.

Just a thought.

DELTA MIKE offer a real nice line of custom option for open shotgun

cheap and inaccurate ....that's how i roll :kickInTheNuts:

Sorry Phil but when I called Delta Mike custom shop, the guy on the phone told me that all their shotguns were on back order due to a to big demand.

Don't worry, I'm still gonna shoot production. I just want a open shotgun for fun and to shoot the very few 3-guns matches that we have here in Quebec.

I agree as well but for now, I can't afford the compensator so that will come later. But after seeing Phil shoot the poppers and the steel plates and kicking everybody's ass with his Delta Mike Custom 870 with a 28 inches barrel at the last few 3-guns matches that we had in Quebec, I think that this is my best option for now. I used to have a tacticool Mossberg 500 with an 18 inches barrel and plates just would'nt fall.

After considering a couple of different options as far as the optic is concerned, I think I'm gonna go with a standard C-More red dot but I'm gonna use the Matt Chiley sideway mount for the C-More so that my red dot is closer from my barrel. I have to check with my gunsmith first if that can be done and if it's possible, that's what I'm gonna do. I can get the mount and a C-More for pretty cheap and as far as I know, I would be the first one to have that type of setup. You have to understand that I've paid 250$ for the shotgun so I don't feel like investing 600$ for a Doctor sight and the mount. I also have an Open AR-15 project coming so I want to spend more money on that. I don't care about the look, I just want it to work and not to be to expensive.

Any thoughts?

i only have a cheap ($40) Tasco red dot scope (the shorteréwider one) on my winchester defender... its a big wide lens so easy to pick up and see thru in 3 gun type action shooting...and yes its really cheap, but it seems to hold its zero and in 3 gun, you dont shoot precision.
my experience so far, i havent missed with it... so why spend money on eotech or others... i agree to spend it on an AR for 3gun and longer ranges (if you get the ones with at least up to 3x)...
but for 3 gun shotgun shootin.... i think that Tasco would do the trick..... but also, in 3 gun, i find you can shoot pretty quick with open sights and not be in open class....

i sighted the red dot right on with slugs at 50 yrds.. and all bird shot are right on for clay and plates in 3 gun matches... you just need to check out the point of aim at 100 yrds with slugs and know your gun...

have fun !
