Looking for some safe recipes for the 338 win mag, with Barnes 210, 225, and 250 gr TSX's. I will be using the new Reloader 17. Anyone experimented with it yet? What have you been finding for results? Thanks, Moosinaround

Just do ladder loading from 2 1/2 grs. below max. and work up 1/2 gr. at a time ,if you see pressure signs stop. Then your safe.
Hey moosin, did you ever buy the Win. SS extreme rifle?

Nope, never found one locally. I started reloading for my 300wm and have decided to stay with the 300wm, and go smaller, 270 win, something like that! A model 70. or maybe a BLR pistol grip? Moosin

Back off

Don't simply stop at signs of pressure, you're likely to be over-pressure at that point. Back off to a safer charge weight, no sense putting yourself and others at risk for a few last fps.

Quickload predicts 69gr. with the 210, loaded to SAAMI spec for OAL. It does not come up in thelist for 225 or 250gr. Likely too fast a burn for the heavier bullets. RL19 would be better. Ramshot Hunter or H4350 would be a better choice for all three weights, based on Quickload and Barnes #4 manual.

Alliant's website shows the following loads for Re17 in the 338 Winchester Magnum

Speer 200 gr SP, Winchester brass, Fed 215 primer, 71 gr gives 3,002 fps

Speer 225 gr BTSP, Federal brass, Fed 215, 67.5 gives 2,831 fps

Speer 250 gr GS, Federal brass, Fed 215, 66 gr gives 2,664 fps

Bassman, didn't tell him to go max loads so how is that unsafe?
If you don't start from lower to close to max, how do you know how much pressure your getting? Lots of factory ammo are very close to max loads!
