two different guns...USA made is The Winchester and Canadian made is the Cooey model 64. The Model 64 Mags can be bought direct from Savage arms. Google and get phone number for parts dept. If it is the USA made, it may prove difficult to find a mag. But they do look similar to the Savage- Stevens-Lakefield Mark II mags. I will know soon as I have a 490 coming to me .

There are 10 shot mags available....my Winnie 490 was bought c/w 2 10 shot mags and a 5 shot. Googling also provides makers of the 10 shot mags. In the USA but still available.

I have a Sears 6c and it takes regular Savage 64 magazines.
You should be able to get 2 of em Shipped from savage for 30-35 bucks.

It looks like you should be able to take savage mrk2 magazines and grind down the 'lip' on the back of them to fit. Work with my Savage 4c anyways. Cheaper than buying special mags from the US.

Sometimes getting mags from the USA is considerably cheaper than what some Canadian gunshops charge for them.

Can't agree with you more. If I need any more mags for my soon to be Winnie 490, I will be grinding off some metal too. But at under $20 US funds, the originals are not too expensive. here the stock Mark II mags are almost $30. Plus shipping if you do not live in the 'Peg.I had a choice of a Winnie 490 and a 10/22 and I chose the one I really wanted.
Out of curiousity, lone-wolf....did you have to grind off all the flange or just a bit? So if there is some left, they can still be used in the stock Mark IIs.

Whamo...you have the canadian version of the 6C...there is an american version too. Yours is made by cooey and the USA made one is winchester. Two completely different guns and do not take the same mags. Yours is as they call it "potmetal" where the other is steel material.
I have 5 models of the Cooey 64 series. the first is a plastic mag then this is replaced by the potmetal magwell and mag and renamed cooey 64A, the company sold out and lakefield took over thus the lakefield 64B and again sold and produced rifles for various retail stores including sears thus the 6C and 8C models.

...can you toy with an AP-80 magazine, to make it fit a Squibman 20P? 
Yup....that's the rifle I use them on now and I also used them on a Lakefield I have since sold (damn...I miss that rifle).

Got my Winchester Model 490 today. What a beauty. Even though it was gunna be my sons extra gopher getter, it will be such a pleasure firing it at the range tomorrow. the balance is great and it feels absolutely right when it hits the shoulder. Quality is next to none and the 22" barrel should reach out for the long ones.
they are made in Canada but sold as the Cooey 6c state side. I certainly will be looking for another in the future...no hesitation.

A classy looking rifle...kind reminds me of the Browning I have. Gunna try it tomorrow...the former owner says it eats any ammo...well we will certainly try them all. the field critters will see it in May as a trip north has already been planned.
