Damn I was close to this guy, but I never got to see him. He left five of these scrapes in a 20 yard area, with a huge footprint in each.
I heard him thump off down the ridge as I approached but that was as close as I got.

Our field edges are littered with scrapes...bucks have been very active for the last 2.5 weeks...I've never seen this many scrapes before.

Sure it's one deer?
I thought we had one buck too until sunday when I found seven walking around!
Some are doing scrapes and rubs at the same time. That is not very common- at home anyways...

It's not impossible, there are signs in areas that border this one, of other big bucks.
The area was abuzz with big buck stories last year when a rub on a 5" poplar was discovered of enormous proportions, and too low down for a moose. Despite dogs, and intense pressure, there were a few close calls, but he was not taken. He's far from stupid.

I mistook him for an elk, until too late when he crossed in front of me in the thick stuff, or he'd be mine.
