Please help me decide... 1911 vs Glock

Personally I don't like the fit of the GLOCK, but a 1911 naturally lines itself up nicely when I pick it up.

Go with a 1911, you cant go wrong, but like others have said, get a .45
I have a Glock, M&P and two 1911's, and the 1911's are my favorites by far.
Better quality, more accurate, and they just feel real nice in the hands.
Havent tried the 80's series, but the S&W's are great. Even the Norc's are a great gun for the price.

Dont dial 911, dial 1911

the M&P is a great gun, and relatively cheap to! great trigger reset. that's one thing you need to learn on the glocks, or any gun for that matter, is the trigger reset.
Was at the range last week in the shop and a guy came in from down range upset. He has just bought an M&P 40 and claimed every shot the mag would fall out of the gun. We laughed at him thinkin he must have been thumbing the mag release but sure enough the gun was a lemon. I'm glad I bought a Glock!

Some good replies here guys. Thanks and keep 'em coming! :)

I absolutely must stick with 9mm for now. .45 may come later on when and if I begin re-loading.

So, that being said, and from the replies on here, it looks like I'm gonna go with the Glock. I'd love to get a 19 over the 17, but they're so much more expensive and probably have less upgrades and parts available in Canada. Maybe if we can get a few of those OIC's reversed and get legal short barrels back, I'd consider one. As for the M&P, I don't know very much about them and would rather stick to the "original" plastic pistol. :nest: :D

I would go with the 1911, Mainly because I prefer a good steel gun to plastic. Glocks don't feel that great in my hands, the M&P was not bad, but I like the feel of my 1911.

Nobody will be talking about a Glock 19 in 98 years. Let alone still be making them and still being as popular as ever.
In 98 years people will wonder what damn fool thought it was a good idea to make a plastic framed pistol.
1911 all the way, you'll never regret it, as long as it's a .45.
Want 9mm get a Hi-Power.

Why are people talking about the 1911 now. Because of it's service record correct. If this is the case then the Glock 17 has a much more extensive service record and world wide distribution. So I would say yes people will be talking about the Glock for years to come. Now before you start saying I know nothing about 1911's I do own one but I keep an open mind and enjoy all types of guns, as they serve different purposes. You sound like the old men at my club, arguing that a single stack, single action .45 is a better duty pistol than a Glock 22. Maby true if Cops were trained bullseye shooters but they need all the rounds they can get, and ease of use and cleaning are far superior on the Glock.

Spotted the above error last night and had to look it up:

"Glock may be the most famous polymer-frame pistol, but it was not the first. That honor goes to the Heckler-Koch VP-70Z." -Ed Sanow, 2000 Guns & Ammo Annual.
The writer makes a pretty strong case for a DAO, Polymer-frame gun for self defense, reliability and safety; in particular a Glock. ;)

Yes, I know that the Glock was NOT the first plastic pistol, hence the :nest: and :D

I just wanted to see if I could stir up some :bsFlag:

I have, in fact, decided on the Glock. I picked out a nice Gen3 G17 from the EE; comes with five mags, two mag holders and a holster.

Thanks for all the help guys. Now keep up the arguing and lets see if we can get this thread locked!
