Long range coyote gun

Are you keeping the dogs for hides?? If not go as big as you like.

Personally I like using my 243. I know its not that prairies, but where I hunt in SWO, it is always windy and it is flat enough to see for miles. Assuming your area is similar in description, what we do might work for you. Only a couple of the guys I hunt with will take long shots (300 - 500) and make them, and we are using 243 and 257 wby. Usually have enough power to anchor them with one shot with a varmint bullet. Match bullets can work, but sometimes don't deliver all of the energy and pass through, that is why we stick to varmint bullets.

As for a who makes them,
243: Remington (VSSF II, VLS, SPS Varmint ...... and more), Ruger, Tikka, etc.
Can usually find one in good shape used and set it up for under 1k

Just my $0.02

We hunt around the Blenheim area. Usually north of Blenheim and east of Blenheim, out towards Highgate. We cover a lot of ground with a lot of guys in the group (some days we have 20 guys). Most of them are local farmers that want to be rid of them and looking to have fun.

In most cases the coyotes are tracked right after a fresh snow fall from before sun rise. Then a couple of the guys (sometimes I get in on it) are sent in to push them out of the bush to the guys along the roads. It is tough hunting because they hole up in some un-godly places, but if you ask around you should be able to find a couple of guys that are in on the hunts.

Personally I am a student, but I work the summers at a local grain elevator. That would be a place to meet people and ask a couple of guys to get some introductions going. A lot of guys who work at elevators hunt or know people who will guide you in the right direction. What part of SWO do you hunt .330Dakota?

 .338LAI shooting 300gr coyote pills..... Kills em dead......I gave one a beating at 925 yrds a year and half or so ago..... Spectacular.....

No replacement for displacement errrr.... yeah thats for cars...guns too!!!

If I could sell 2-3 major organs I would order one up in from a certain builder in Calgary :D

Well, boys, my 223 Ackley with the 75 gr A-Max leaving the muzzle at 3000 fps works pretty well up this way. Gets there quick, accurate, expands way out there, and does it with just 28 gr of powder. :)

It's not an easy 500 yd gun, but certainly death to 350!

Sell a kidney and a lung..... Youll be ok!!!!! :D

They last a long time.... Ask Kevan, I have about 850 rounds thru mine, same brass...Never trimmed I would say Kevan has substantially more thru his, and I know it shot good when he got it, and pretty sure it still does!!!!
