I have not been having any luck finding a source for .223 primers. I am looking in particular for the CCI #400 small rifle primer. I shoot primarily .223 from my M4 rifle so I need a harder primer to prevent slam fires. Thanks guys.

Don't don't what your experience has been but for what it's worth when I reloaded for my AR-15 I used regular WSR when I couldn't find CCI 400's and never had a slam fire. That said, probably never fired more than a box of WSR (1000 rounds) and I don't know how the M4 compares.

I am new to reloading. Still waiting for my press but I am stocking up on supplies. What is WSR and where do I get them in Canada. I will be reloading .223 caliber for my M4 so I need a harder primer. I will use Nosler 60 grain ballistic point bullets and I have a pile of brass of various manufacture to reload. Do you think these reloads will work O.K. in my Mini14 although I don't usually rapid fire that rifle as it gets too hot.

"...CCI #400 small rifle primer..." They're magnum primers. Magnum primers don't use a different cup. CCI "milspec" primers are a marketing gimmick for magnum primers.
Your M4 will be fine with regular primers as long as you seat the primer properly. Millions of rounds of .223 was loaded with regular primers with no fuss. FL resizing is required every time too.

WSR stands for Winchester Small Rifle (if it doesn't, it should :) ) and are, or used to be since I haven't bought any in a while, commonly available from anyone who sells components (e.g. Higginsons or Wholesale Sports, but I'd check the sponsors at the top of the page first). I had heard about slam fires with the AR-15 (very similar in appearance to the M4 carbine if not in operation) and that I needed hardened primers so the WSR were a last resort.

Can't say what your experience will be with your rifle, but in my case the tolerances were eventually more than I wanted to deal with (had more jams than I could tolerate) so finally went back to store-bought ammo. These days I save the craftsmanship for pistol loads and shoot the AR for fun.

If I don't get primers, I guess I'll be throwing rocks. S**T you'd think this would be simple. How come CCI doesn't up their production to keep up with demand? Sick of this.

I just picked up 2000 CCI 400 small rifle primers at CRAFM today. I think they've got some more. They've got large pistol and others too,in stock, I believe. don't know about shipping to your location. It was going to be pricey from Montreal to Ottawa, so I just picked them up instead.

We have Federal small rifle, CCI small rifle, and Fed small pistol mag (no regular small pistol on this order) coming in with the order on Monday or Tuesday. I won't know the price until I see the freight costs but probably $36-$38/1000.

Supply and demand guys, if you can't actually find the product you're looking for anywhere else, are you really in a position to haggle on price?

Besides, even $100/1000 is still cheaper than $1+/round for factory
