I will soon be recieving my first pistol a comander length norc 45. I was thinking i will probably want a new set of grips on it what else do you guys reccomend for upgrades?

Only you can decide what needs changing.

You might be happy with it just as it is...or not.

Trigger work (Gunnar, Kotenko, or Francisco Abusaid), grip safety (STI), thumb safety (STI), and sights (Heinie straight-eight), for example.

Mods on a 1911.....

+1

Mods on a pistol, especially a 1911, are a very personal thing.

I bought my new model Norc 1911A1 compact [commander] NIB a couple years back. For me I switched out:

Stock trigger for an adjustable aluminum one.
New grips with hex grip screws.
Extended slide stop for a standard one.

Shoots like a house on fire as it is now, including digesting Fiocchi 230 gr JHP's like there's no tomorrow. I think I'll leave it as is for now.... ;)

Mine's got an Armco tune (recomended) Novak competition sights and an extended thumb safety - oh yeah, and wood grips

Incidently, mine is extremely accurate and has yet to show a dislike for any ammunition, but it is a real tack driver with the same Fiocchi 230 jhp that NAA uses. That is a terrific load, and I would imagine very destructive on the receiving end.

Yes, on paper targets..... ;) :p

I should also say, mine does not have an Armco tune. I bought it locally and it would have been destined for Gunnar's bench to work his magic but after I self-installed the adjustable aluminum trigger I found the action very much to my liking. That also carried over to it's performance at the range. So, I have decided to leave it as it is. For the moment, I can even work with the smallish sites that Norinco puts on them, but I would agree some better visibility sites would be a worthwhile improvement. Those Novaks would be just the ticket....

Good sights, a good trigger, and reliability are all you really need. Everything else is just preference. Some things to avoid are:

-Extended slide stop
-Extended magazine release
-Full length guide rod

Extended ejectors are also superfluous; the standard one works fine in conjunction with a properly tensioned extractor and they can impede ejection of loaded rounds.

I got a new trigger to get rid of the take up. I might be getting a new safety since the ambi one on my norc is a pain and might be broken. Also, I got a few mags from dlask (18 dollars for a mag is so cheap).

The standard (Norinco 1911A1C) ejector already is an extended version.

Commander ejectors are normally longer than for a 5" gun. I was thinking more in terms of the common practice of fitting an extended ejector into a 5" gun, which admittedly doesn't apply in this case. Either way, there is no need to change out the ejector in your Norinco.

Yummy :)

I will clean my Norc right now. Think I put it away dirty about 2 years ago when I let my membership lapse. My new ATT should arrive next week!

Armco tune, and some nice grips are all that mine has. I might put some night sights on it at some point, but other than that I'm one of these old retrograde dinosaurs who thinks that the basic 1911A1 is pretty much perfect save for the sights...

I dunno USP, I'm even warming up to those salmon colored grips.....

:p

in person they look much better, the camera I have is a POS :D With colours and focus being off. I need to get a new camera and pepost the picture. The grips are much less bright in person- looks good with the flat chrome.

I was out shooting my Glocks the other day and the Norc. Ive come to the conclusion that Glocks are ugly POS and offer the user little enjoyment in shooting them. The Norc is pretty accurate and so far is breaking in just fine.
