Older Ammo

My father gave me a Box with this ammo in it the other day can anyone help me determine what they are???

On the Shot Gun Shells they are 2 3/4 I really just wonder if they are Steel or Lead.

Stamped on it is Dominion - 6.5 M. Sch

Got a magnet? Can't say for sure about the first pic but the second one is lead for sure it is an old Imperial shotgun shell. Later Imperials did not have the grooves on the brass base.

I think the top is from the 80's as well so good chance its lead, there were a bunch of those same green shells in my dads supply of old ammo

The Cartridge is probably a 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schauner.

Regarding the 12 Ga ammo, there is very little chances it could be steel (especially if they're not marked as such). But I agree with the "magnet technique".

Here's what the box of the 6.5 M-S should like.

It was loaded with 160 grains bullets.

I have shot those cartridges in my 6.5 Carcano.

1. Remington lead #4 shot, magnum (meaning not a light target load)
2. CIL (or Imperial-same thing) lead #5 shot, magnum (again, not a light target load)
3. Cartridge is definately a 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schauner.

They are used in the Mannlicher-Schönauer rifle. They're much more common in Austria and Hungary (were used by Austro-Hungarian Empire in WWI).

Yep, exactly as L-H described. And yes, both are lead shot, manufactured a couple decades before steel shot was first used.

We still have some of the exact same shells. Were using them this fall hunting pheasants. Depending on the vintage, the CIL/Imperial might not even have a shot cup, just a fibre wad under the shot.
