SKS Length of pull

You all know the ergonomics of the Simonov carbine aren't awesome, but does anyone know a quick way to make the stock longer without changing anything permanent? I love my SKS as it is, it's pretty with it's laminate wood and all, but it's length of pull is along the 12".

I need 14.5-15 to be comfortable.

Any ideas? I'm looking for a thick, hard leather I could make a buttcuff with, sticking two to three inches of filler (probably a hard, light plastic) to make it a bit better to shoot. Stock's so short, my nose is hitting the rear end of the receiver.

Anything like this made already? I know about the slip on recoil pads, but that's not nearly enough.

Get a fiberglass stock and add a SKS 2" recoil pad then use a slip over pad. This will give you the L.O.P. that you would be looking for and also improve you accuracy and lighten the weight. Or get a TAPCO stock and then the L.O.P. will be adjustable.

I had the same problem, I tried a couple homemade butt extenders with a 2 inch slip on recoil pad, nothing permanent. Still did not fit me right. I also tried a ATI Monti Carlo stock with and without recoil pads, was better but still not right. I tried the Tapco T6 stock and bingo the ergonomics are great. This stock fits the rifle great as well as me. I know what your are saying its not my laminated stock and I said the same thing. I went with the comfort of the T6 stock over the looks of the wood stock.

I bought the after market sks butt extender pad. Goes right over top of the metal butt end and uses the original screws it even has the hole to access the tool kit. That added 2" which feels a lot better. You could shim under the pad with fitted plywood in thicknesses to suit pull length desired. Probably you'd need longer screws, but they are just wood screws

I went into the local gunshop and he had a box full of used rubber butt pads.

I found one that didn't need any re-shaping and even the screw holes are the same...$3

You guys steered me in the right direction! Thanks for the ideas. I'll make a shim between the buttplate and stock, have it thick enough for my liking, and then make a leather sock for it all. A dark brown leather should go well with the laminate. I'll post pics when I'm done, but that might be in a long time XD

Don't need bigger gongs all I need is somebody to stand beside them shining a flash light on them so I can see. Just let the old f**ks like me that can't see shoot first.................
