That's right you can't bring them into the US. Might be why the price is that high.

Norcs and Polytechs in america are prebans and were imported from 1988 to 1994 before the embargo. It appears just over 4000 were imported in this time frame by Keng's Firearms and IDE usa

Once again quoted from The M14 rifle history and development online edition by Lee Emerson aka Different.

You guys should sticky this link. It is basically the M14 bible.

And a fair price for one in the US would be $900. H2O man can correct me if it has gone up in the last few years.

Lee (Different) is the man and ChiCom M14s sell for between $700.00
for just the used rifle to around $1200.00 for a new in the box Poly Tech.
Heel stamped Poly Tech M14s command a premium price. Norinco rifles
tend to trade for less than Poly Tech rifles, their finish is usually slightly
less refined than the Poly, but the quality is the same for both "brands".

We are very luck in Canada to get Norinco rifles. The US ban is more political than anything else. They get all other sorts of made in China stuff..

As the guys said before dont buy one Norinco M14S. BUY TWO!!!

I love my Norinco. Would I trade it for a Springfield? Damn straight and who could blame me! For the money though, my only complaint is that there are too many aftermarket accessories.

You can build a Polytech with over 75% USGI parts for less than the price of an M1A standard. I have sold my Springfields and am doing just that. All forged, with no out of spec parts.

An interesting trade-off between AK47 and Norinco M14, I will say we will be luckier to be able to buy AK47 here in Canada!..........

Not me! I couldn't wait to replace my Springfield with a Norinco.

My two favorite rifles in my collection are a 7.72 Norinco AKM and a MK14 SEI Mod 1 built on an old heel stamped Norinco M14 receiver.
