I was thinking the same thing seeing as I have a .510 barrel in the closet. I know why you were thinking it though...

Why? They're too tough a bullet for 38-55 velocities. You'd be better served by something softer. Now a 286 gr .366" DGX...
 
I also have a spare .510 barrel just waiting in the wings to build 50/460Wby. now we have access to a decent {cheap, well sorta} bullet.
Guess I better get going and order the reamer!

Gawd can I not get a straight-on view? maybe with a 9mm standing beside it as a comparison? Just so my wife will take more than a short glance at the screen ;)

That's the great debate - what to build? 500 Nitro on a #1? 50 Peacekeeper on a custom action? 500 A-Square on a CZ 550? Decisions, decisions...

I know Casull built a 577 on a single shot (not Ruger but similar though larger) action. But now that you mention it, he may have built a 50-460 (Peacekeeper or A-Square) of some sort. I know this because I bought my 510 blank from him (one of the guys backed out).
