inheriting 12 (6) handguns

And to the 2nd part of your question , 12-7 is only for 12-6 hand guns ,
you are sol as far as 12-2,12-3,12-5 etc goes.
And you can't make a restricted out of a .32 or .25, now matter what the
barrel is on it . .380's short pocket pistols can be made into restricted as
.380. is not a proh. caliber.
If you try to make common sence out of all this B.S. , you go nuts,
( Just like the stupid ####s in Ottawa that thought all this up)

Unless they are pre 1946 vintage, can't remember the exact year, you're SOL. BTW can't go out and buy others, Anyway topic been beat to death. Go shoot and enjoy them with your dad. Because when he is gone, so are his toys.

:D
Because when he is gone, so are his toys.

 .....Anybody even consider the possibility of actually standing up & fighting for your inherited property by getting together with the shooting orgs & lobbying the CPC (if they form a majority) to repeal the more draconian sections of the Firearms Act like the post dated confiscation Section 12 & perhaps save the .25's & 32's & short barrel handguns?

Of course not!...........just roll over & give up your rightful heritage !...........welcome to Canada !!

Canadian CCW ;)...................................Yuuuuuuuuh !

So much easier to just lay down & give up your heritage

Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for information wise. My gal has to go and get her 12(7) now. We can't let them take away value-able antiques for destruction or Bubba dewatting because of some chicks--t law
Very informative and a decent smackdown too.

When it comes to handguns, you don't go get your 12(7), it may be given to you if you have an RPAL and qualify.

Tall Tale
4. You can’t leave your guns to your children once they are registered

Reality
4. Yes you can.

A registered firearm can be transferred to any new owner provided they obtain a PAL that allows him or her to own in the class of that particular firearm. In the case of an inheritance, the executor keeps the firearm until the inheritor has a Possession and Acquisition Licence that allows him or her to own that class of gun. For a new applicant, this means completing the appropriate courses. The transfer of ownership is then made in the usual way.

Only with prohibited handguns is there a difference. Any "grandfathered" prohibited handgun manufactured before 1946 (act s.12(7) and registered before February 14, 1995, can be passed on to a deceased owner’s spouse, brother, sister, child, or grandchild. These individuals can obtain a licence for that handgun by virtue of their relationship with the owner, provided that they take the appropriate firearm safety courses and that they can prove it will be used for "permitted purposes."

If the prohibited handgun was not registered prior to February 14, 1995 it can not be inherited.

Regarding other prohibited firearms, the inheritor must already have ‘grandfathered’ rights to possess that class of firearm

Horse fraking shyt !!!! (when you're talking about 12 (x) stuff)

Sounds like that PLACEBO (to create a sense of false security) snake oil stuff the federal DOJ & Osbaldeston were flogging back when there were still people around that were mule azz dumb enough to believe that Bill C-68 was a public safety measure.

Other than handguns that qualify under the rigid & restrictive 12 (7) criteria my kids CANNOT & I repeat CANNOT inherit & legally own any of my 12 (x) stuff inclusive of 12 (6) handguns.

Section 12 (as is any firearms grandfathering legislation) was an old Liberal divide an conquer tactic whereby the "old guys" like me would be pacified into not #####ing too much & in effect into selling out the younger generation because Section 12 is nothing but post dated confiscation.

When the last grandfathered owners die off the 12 (x) firearms WILL be surrendered/confiscated & destroyed unless they are otherwise legally disposed of: i) exported out of Canada, ii) deactivated, iii) donated to appropriately licensed museums.

The ONLY way to keep the socialists from eventually stealing you rightful inheritance is to QUIT WHINING & GROW A PAIR & get behind your orgs & get politically active (in the dictionary under "a") & fight (in the dictionary under "f") to have the bad legislation such as Section 12 of the Firearms Act repealed.
