B-gun, (BPS/Nova), choices?

I figure the only way I'll own a Browning or a Benelli is to look at their pump models. I confident either one would be a good choice. Other than fit, and my choice mat be obvious as soon as I pick them up, are there any other factors that I should consider? I'm of average build and I have heard the BPS has a long stroke.

the Nova has a pretty long length of pull. it also has a bit longer pump stroke because of the 3.5" action.

other than that all i can say is dont get too hung up on the Benelli/Browning name. a pump is a pump, and pretty much all of the big name modern pumps like the 870, 500, 1300, etc will give you decades of trouble-free use. get the one that fits you best and is most suited for your intended use.
 
They are both reliable if that's your concern. They are however, very different guns. You'll understand when you shoulder them both.

I'm 6 ft + and find the BPS to be a bit of an uncomfortable stretch. The Nova fits me much better but not as good as a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/835.
 
I know of a lot of people who use Browning BPS shotguns.They seem to be quite happy with them.I have a Browning BPS 28 gauge that works well.

Have never used a Benelli pump so I cannot comment on them.

wow, the BPS has an even longer LOP than a Nova? :eek:

this is one advantage of the Remmy 870s/Mossy 500s. even if they came with a 30" LOP :)D) from the factory, fitting it to yourself would be a very quick and cheap proposition as their aftermarkets are huge and there is something for everyone and every conceivable application.
 
Proper gun fit should be the foremost criteria when it comes to selecting the shotgun. Having said that, the BPS has a few good features i.e. tang safety, bottom load/ejection port, shell release (from the mag tube) capability.

It is the fore arm that seems to be too far forward. I find myself barely reaching the most rearward end of the fore arm instead of the center where my hand falls naturally with the 870 and 500/590s. The BPS just seems to be too long for me.
 
As far as quality the BPS is Superior to all others all machined parts very smooth nice Finnish it was designed back in 1921 by Browning and started out as the Remington model 17 in 20ga. then became the Ithaca model 37 when the patents ran out in 1978 Browning was able to produce it under there name . All that being said if it doesn't fit you it's not for you when it comes to shotguns proper fit is essential look at the new Ithaca they do have a shorter stroke .

I'm a little gun shy wrt. the 37. I once shoot a friends for a box or so. The recoil was punishing for me. Light gun and poor fit. Are the newer ones the same?

I agree, a Pump is a Pump. However; you need to keep in mind that some have a thougher finishes than others like cammo and are less prone to rust. These days, you can get Pumps that have extra features and the Benelli Super Nova's got sweet features that separates it from others. But at what cost?
 
I have a Nova. I'm sure I could use it to hammer in fence posts without much issue. It's heavy and ugly - perfect for the swamp. I wouldn't want to lug it around the uplands, though.

And WRT LOP, I'm 5'9" and my ideal LOP is 15" as measured by a fitter. Height don't mean diddly.
