My New Finn M-39

Hello,

I have a Finn M-39 i just received. After stripping and cleaning somewhat, I have this series of pictures, as there are alot of marks I do not know of, I have looked on Mosin.net and 7.62X54R.net and managed to find a few but not all.

Firstly, what is the Capitol M for? The Circle K T P and C? The single round circle on the magazine bottom?
My front site is numbered "70" on the post and "70" right behind the barrel. What does this mean?

Any other recognised marking ID would be very welcome!
I believe that this is a Sako rifle built on a re-used Tzarist 1915 Tula reciver, with a bolt made of Imperial Tula and Izhevesk parts.

Tell me if I'm right!

Hi Drachenblut,

Keep tring 7.62x54r.net for checking markings, cartouches, etc. From what I know the 70 behind the front sight/sight post is the front blade blade height. The other marks could also be Russian Imperial markings as you say you have a 1915 Tula receiver.

Congrats on your find. I also have non refurbished '41 Sako M39.

Your photos page was not found when I checked. My guess is that the KTP might be a Civil Guards district as there is a KLP mark described as such on 7.62x54r.net. Both M and C marks are reported on Soviet and Tikka barrels on 7.62x54r.net with no explanation - if you look you will find. As to the mark on the mag - no clue. Again pics would help.

My '41 Sako says hi too but is camera shy.:D

The next time you see some Subaru or Mitsubishi rally-type car heading your way sideways at about 100 mph, driven by very serious looking men, look out, it's probably the Finnish Anti-Flag-Besmirching/World Rally Championship team.

You will need to understand that all Finnish rifles are captured rifles and you will need to research Russian M91 rifles here:

Scroll up the link and investigate. you might be surprised.

Now knowing that the Fin riels are captured, some parts are mixed with M91 or M91/30 parts from different years etc. So read it all.

BTW your photobucket link is not working, perpaps if it was, we all could help more.
