Project "Because I can"

Hi all !

Thanks for the comments. For those of you curious about the Enfield, read all about it here

On to the shotgun. I painted all of it with Krylon Olive Drab

Then I made some sort of bead sight. I took a 1/8-32 screw, cut it down, and I threaded the top of my UHMW ring.

Next I measured the barrel, and it is a safe 23 inches now. I cut it with a saw, made it square with the grinder and file, and I cleaned the inside of the barrel with a file.

Next I assembled the gun, I must admit that I really like the OD finish, but this one will be winter camo, so I keep at my original plan.

Then I layed some cedar cliping and I sprayed light strokes of flat white, moving the cedar from place to place. I'm satisfied with the result

Next step will be a coat of wax all over, and shoot the thing !!

What do you mean "Pattern it" ??

shoot whatever your usual load is at a set distance (hopefully your normal hunting/shooting range) to see how the shot distribution is.
since cutting it down did away with any choke at the end of the barrell, you might get a really wide, really loose pattern. Good thing to check before you go out hunting with it.

I may steal your camo methods for my synthetic stocked hunting rifle.

I shot it today at a target about 50 feet from me. The shot spread was about 20 inches. A friend who was with me shot the same cartridge with his un-cut 30 inch full choke, and it was about 6 inches. So yes, it does spread more.

However it is easy to carry, fun to shoot and it was fun to built. Next thing I try out of it is a slug

Yeah....amazing how its a simple answer to a question I would have asked on how you got such a perfect painted pattern.
I'm thinking I'm gonna do my Remmy 700 SPS Varmint up like that

It looks beautiful, and it's one of a kind. One thing, couldn't you have drilled and screwed in some regular sling swivels? Those Jeep lugs are the only thing that keeps it from looking factory IMO. Still, awesome work turning a broken beater into a thing of beauty. Bravo.

Sweet job on the winter camo! Seems to be an easy way to get a nice superior look. Sort of looks like a snowstorm blowing around a tree, very cool. Time to paint my toolboxes again!
