I am interested in any info on .22 conversion kits for the AR 15. I appologize if this has been covered, I tried the search but was unsuccessful. The only one I am able to find is the CMMG drop in kit from Questar. It looks like you just replace the existing BCG with the .22 BCG and use the .22 mags......looks fairly simple. Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they function well? Well built? What are the mags like in terms of function and fit? Any long term issue that would be caused from using a .22 conversion kit long term? The price of .223 sure makes the ability to shoot .22 quite attractive these days. If there are any other manufacturers to look at that are out there please let me know. Thanks in advance for any info.

It is covered in lots of other threads. When you do your search it defaults to a short time period. Change it to 6 months and check again.

I have one of these as well. It eats anything I feed it and other than a FTE on the very first round, it's run like a sewing machine for the last 3 thousand round.

Clean it every 4-500 rounds and keep it oiled when you use it.

YMMV

None of these kits are perfect in every rifle. I've tried a couple in mine, I had a Atchisson/Ceiner MKII for a while, worked alright, then I got a CMMG kit (after hearing the rave reviews). Unfortunately, it wasn't much better. Could be that I bought a lemon though.

I allready try conversion kit and don't work 100% (some jamming), now I use complete Spike upper and no problem, each time I'm going at the range I shoot more than 500 rd no stop and no jamming, work perfectly, I love it !!

What? No one added "Fun to shoot!!!!".

Shoot the AR 60 times.... or 500 times for practically the same money?

My CMMG drop in conversion is pretty accurate to 50m on my short barrel AR (7.5) with a 1:9 twist

And out to 100M with a little hold over with a scope calibrated for .223 on my 16" 1:7 twist carbine.

I can't see going for the hassle of a dedicated upper/barrel for an AR.
(More accurate .22LR platforms to be had for less $$.)

I bought the conversion kit and a Savage MkII-BTVSS for the about the price of a dedicated.

Definite +1 CMMG conversion kit. ~$300 well spent... Get the clear/smoke blackdog mags to help you eyeball how many rounds you have left.

Dude... I beg to differ. What's so much hassle re a dedicated upper?
They're purpose built. Have the right rate of twist and for the extra $$ well worth it over what a conversion kit costs.

Tac Sol Upper on an Armalite lower... Total $$ about $1000.(minus the scope) Exclude the cost of the completed lower if you just want to swap uppers... Me I'm lazy and prefer to just grab and go :D

Fab,

I like the spikes 22lr upper, will you be selling those? Also, will those barrels work with any 22lr conversion kit?

Yes I wait uppers, bolt, barrels, we start made barrels too like you see on the picture.

The standard convertion kit work with 5.56 barrel, but the dedicated bolt work only with dedicated barrel, they made from Green Mountain Blanks w/ a mil spec parkerized finish, they have the Proper 1:16 twist rate

You don't need buy complete upper, you can buy only the bolt and the barrel and use your AR upper and handguard (you don't use gas tube, gas block)
