I know this will get me a hubdred personal opinions but that is what I want.

I am going to be upgrading my shotgun for Christmas present to myself.

I postly waterfowl with it but Turkey interest's me as well.

What do you recommend for the money. Looking to spend around $800.00 - $1500.00

I have looked at and held the following.

Winchester SX3

Beretta Super Sport

And a Benelli not sure model though.

Thanks,

WIN SX3 for sure, buy the waterfowl or the grey shadow, with a 3" or 3 1/2" chamber and a 26" barrel that way you get the best of both worlds.

I have patterned my 28" bbl with winchester 3 1/2" turkey loads and winchester 3" double x turkey loads. But make sure you spring for an extra full choke. I got an HS Undertaker for $30 and it is beautiful. Even with only a bead site at 45-50 yards 75% of my shot charge would have still smoked a turkey.

Oh and shop around for prices, and buy what fits your LOP and body. You will find 85% of dealers at least $150 over priced.

I too am looking to gift myself with a new shotgun. I will probably go with a semi-auto 12ga with a 3 1/2" chamber. My current shotgun has a 3" chamber & 3" shells seem more than adequate. I have shot 3 1/2" shells from my buddy's gun & they kill from both ends :D. I just figure if I ever want to sell the gun, a 3 1/2" chamber will be more attractive to prospective buyers. I also like the guns with an overall camo scheme. I know some people will say it's not necessary, but I believe every little thing helps so I would get it. Another thing I was thinking about was getting an extra rifled slug barrel bundled with the gun. Sometimes you can get good deals this way if it falls within your budget. Let us know what you decide to get.

Only one suggestion so far but it was pointing me in the direction I was already heading so I will await some more and go from there.

I am upgrading from a hand me down 1100 2 3/4 only.

I paid $1450 taxes in at Eli's in Simcoe, ON for a 3.5" 28" waterfowl SX3. (In 2008)

$1460 US, That is $US MSRP. Expect to pay $100 or so over that atleast. The last time I was at Eli's in Simcoe, ON an Sx3 was going for $1560 before tax.

Cabelas Canada:

Black Synthetic: $1240 b4 tax
Waterfowl in 3.5" 28" bbl: $1430 b4 tax but has a backorder. (If you could get a dealer to match this price you would be in the best price range.)
Grey shadow: $1290 b4 tax. (pick it up and look at it, this is the best option in I wish I had bought this color)

Thanks,
The Benelli Super Sport is ported which is not popular in a duck blind because of the added noise. Also that bright receiver wouldn't be great either.

For a Benelli skip the expense of the Super Sport and consider the M2.

The Winchester is a good gun as the very similar Brownings. Berettas are my favourite in the gas guns. Urika in 3" or Xtrema if 3.5" is what you want.

The Remington 11-87 comes to mind. I had one of the Premier models and it worked great. I haven't heard a lot of good things about the 3 1/2" chamber models though. Mine was 3".

If you are planning to get rid of the 100, PM me as I love the old 1100s!

Lots of folks claim great experiences with the Stoeger M2000s.
Browning's Maxus falls within your budget requirements
The Beretta Xtrema @ without kickoff can be had for just over $1500, Used would be under for sure!

The guy is looking for a 3.5" capability. The M2 only holds 3". May I suggest the Benelli Super Black Eagle Turkey model, Steady Grip Realtree APG HD. More $$$ but you get the top gog of them all. If your looping for the best, look no further.

Where did the OP say he was looking for a 3 1/2" gun?

You refer this thread, I know but it shows no evidence of what happened nor does it explain what happened in detail, just a bunch of us trying to figure out what happened.
Yes and the thread is no reason not to buy a Winchester SX3. There are tons of them out there including the similarly designed Browning.

He didn't say he wanted 3.5" and if you read his post again you'll learn that he wants a gun mainly for waterfowl and is interested in turkey.

The gun you reccomend is very nice but it's a turkey gun and that Steady Grip while good still hunting might not be as good for his main objective which is waterfowl.
