New Shotgun

You refer this thread, I know but it shows no evidence of what happened nor does it explain what happened in detail, just a bunch of us trying to figure out what happened.

As you read the thread it also points to this thread on another site;

Essentially it appears "some" SX3s are self destructing when shooting Winchester steel ammunition.

If I were considering buying anSX3 and planned on using Winchester ammo, I would wait until the cause of these "incidents" has been reached.

The OP didn't mention what ammo he planned on using and I thought this information may be useful in his decision making.

The guy is looking for a 3.5" capability. The M2 only holds 3". May I suggest the Benelli Super Black Eagle Turkey model, Steady Grip Realtree APG HD. More $$$ but you get the top gog of them all. If your looping for the best, look no further.

Actually the OP didn't state a preference for 3 1/2" or 3". Another poster that replied (GLANG1) he was looking for a 3 1/2" gun.

Yes and the thread is no reason not to buy a Winchester SX3. There are tons of them out there including the similarly designed Browning.

Never suggested he not buy an SX3 only pointed out some of the problems a couple of fellows had with theirs. I doubt my input is having any bearing on his decision to but an SX3 or not. He seems to have made up his mind to buy one.

Based on that thread he may want to keep tuned in it to see what actually caused those SX3s to blow up so as to avoid experiencing the same loss.

Again that will be up to him.

Lot's of valid points I am not particular on 3" or 3.5" just want a decent gun that won't be obsolete or behind the times in a few years. That SX3 Story is a little scray.

The SX3 blowing up is my post. As of right now Winchester hasn't found out what happened and they are still examing it now. It's NO reason not to get an sx3, as my buddy which this has happened to is waiting for a replacement himself.

Still, dropping that much cash, I would play with someone's before deciding. The urika is a ###y gun with loads more features than the sx3, which is very basic 1100 type guns.

I just figure if I ever want to sell the gun, a 3 1/2" chamber will be more attractive to prospective buyers. I also like the guns with an overall camo scheme. I know some people will say it's not necessary, but I believe every little thing helps so I would get it.

if resale is a big factor for you, and you actually intend to use this gun, id recommend you skip the camo.
i have yet to see a camo shotgun that has actually been used that didnt look like ass after a few years.

Where did the OP say he was looking for a 3 1/2" gun?

By reading all his replies, it sounds like he wan't to upgrade from 2"75. You are correct, he never said 3.5". I guess I assumed that's what he wanted as that's what I would do. If I was to upgrade, I would go all the way if I wanted to upgrade. If you have a gun that takes 3.5", nothing says you can't use 3".

Don't discount the SX3 so fast. I bought on in 2007 and it has never missed a beat. Mine is a 3", Black Composite. It has been through the ringer and back. I topped it with a Carlson"s extended LM tube and it rocks. I shoot mostly reloads from it now, and have at least 6 buddies using the same. The barrel thread scares me too, but I chaulk that up to a Monday morning/Friday after production run. The cost on mine was 1025.00 all in, from the Gun Dealer in McAdam, NB. If you go with this option, I promise you'll not be regretful.

If your in the Ottawa area, your more that welcome to put a few rds through mine.

Thanks ianthomson

This is a very hard decision for me. I am usually a very impulsive buyer and end up with a bunch of stuff I never use or like. So I am really trying to take my time with this one as I plan on having it for a long time. Thanks for all the advice guys.
