I just picked up a Remington 870 Express Tactical and I'm adding a few things to it to suite my needs/taste.

I've decided to pick up a Surfire for end for it.

What I want to know is where can I pick up rail guards for this. I see them on Ar's quite often. I'm looking for one that are in sections as I plan on having a light mounted and need to have a usable section of rail.

Ive seen a few that I like. There is one called an XTM cover but cant find where to pick these up from. I think these are made by Magpul.

I'm looking for black only. does anyone know where to get these?

You can get the Magpul XTM panels from Brownells, here is the stock number:

100-003-521 (for black)

As for the UTG panels, you can get them from pretty much any local gun shop...

Brownells has the command arms accessories ones (pretty much the same as UTG), although I think Wolverine has the CAA ones as well.

I personally prefer the ladder style rail covers, since they dont bulk up a grip as much as the rounded ones do. :D

You can cut the ladder style ones to whatever length you desire.

I was considering those but I want the forend to feel similar to the OEM shape. How is the grip with just the ladder style covers? I see them everywhere for cheap but was thinking that the other style may offer better grip and comfort.

I find the ladder style covers to have very good grip. Since they stick out a bit from the rail slots, they give some ridges to grab onto, but since its soft plastic, it doesn't hurt to hold them

The biggest plus for me, is that they dont make the grip too big and fat feeling. If you have bigger hands though (mine are fairly normal sized) then the thicker curved rail panels may be what you're after!
