Which new short-barrelled handgun to buy in the US?

I come down here to Florida every Thanksgiving, sometimes in the spring as well. I asked my buddy if he'd mind buying a handgun for me to keep here. He's got no issues with that whatsoever. And I believe all you need down here is proof of residency. Which he obviously has.

EDIT: Turns out that him buying one for me would be illegal under US federal law. So in order to be law-abiding, he will be buying a pistol that I reccommend and allow me to shoot it when he goes to the range next time I'm here.....

Soooo, my question is this. I can pretty well buy anything I want. Obviously, I want to buy something I can't have in the socialist republic of Canada (even with my 12.3, 12.5 & 12.6, I still can't buy any newer prohibs back home). What do I get?
My ideas so far are as follows;

Para 12/45 (yummy)
Glock (yuk) 45 compact

That's all I have to date. I really dunno where to begin.... Suggestions, please?

I say screw Para.

If I was going to get a compact pistol to carry in the States it would be a compact Glock 27 in .40 cal.....

Something like this: :D

Ruger SP-101s can be bought up here for someone with 12(6).

How about a S&W 696 3" 44SPL?
Or like others have said a compact or sub-compact Glock( I know, Yuck) with the original length barrel?

Take a hard look at the CZ line of pistols. In particular the 75- D Compact. Gun is very accurate and reliable. The gun is aluminum alloy framed so is very light and very conceable in an IWB holster. Gun fits your hand nicely. 14 round capacity + 1 in the chamber. The gun is NATO approved and has had extended testing. You won't be disappointed.

Any particular reason for your allergic reaction to Para's? Oh, and btw. Your Glock 27 is indeed very attractive. I'm tempted...

I'd get a S&W Nightguard in 357:

Not cheap though. But I bet it's nice.

Yup, saw one here. They are nice, but I'm more inclined towards a semi

Glock's looking better'n better, though the CZ is looking purdy too.

I'll be researching your suggestion indeed. I've always been drawn to the CZ line. The fullsize 75 fits my girlishly-small hands like a glove. Matter of fact, I cannot honestly defend my never having purchased one yet, and I've got $hitloads of handguns....

One thing's fer sure, I wasn't expecting such high prices for some of the pistols. We saw a run of the mill used Mdl 36 going for $350. Wasn't even in mint condition. Good, yeah. But in my mind, sure's hell not worth $350 USD.

And then it hit me. It's we 12.6ers in Canada who are getting relatively good deals on sub 4.125" pistols. We're a dying breed, therefore the available market is shrinking with every passing year. :puke:

Thanks for the suggestions and keep 'em coming...

If the full size fits you wait until you try the 75D Compact. Ghost out of Arizona has very good prices for the gun. Take a look at the CZ Forum. Lots of good information there on the gun.

Para sucks for so many reasons. Poor customer service, bad finishes, poor reliability in SOME models.
Having said this, I LOVE my P12! :) It's reliable, comfortable to shoot, shoots right dead centre and is SO small it's a cutie!
(As you can see I've cleverly covered up the serial number so you can't pretend it is yours!) :)

First is the cZ 75 Compact. You may want to consider the Bersa Thunder UC, however the grip is on the large end so hold one before you buy. If you are partial to revolvers, try the S&W 640 or 642.
