Swissarms - flat top of diopter sight?

Thinking about getting another Swissarms rifle.

For some things I'm doing the 551LB I have is a little too long so I'm getting a 553LB.

It's not to replace the 551, but to supplement it.

Now the question is wether to get a flat top version or with a diopter.
I'd like to put an Aimpoint ML2 on top of it, but I can do that with either version. The rail I have on my 551 is rock solid and not much higher then the flat top version.

What do you guys think?

If your wanting an optic why buy a firearm that requires a mount to mount an optic. When you can get the same without irons that could possible get in the way of the iron sight, and you don't have to pay for the extra mount

One of the more appealing features of the Swiss Arms rifles are the fantastic diopter sights. Irons don't fail and with the proper rail and mount you can co-witness whatever optic you decide on. Whatever cash you save by not having to purchase a rail, you'll end up spending (and more besides) for a decent BUIS. The factory flip up BUIS that ships with the flat top models sucks arse.
 
I prefer the flat-top. I can mount the scope low. No bulky cheek risers to deal with. Not so top heavy. If the diopter site is a big deal, then just add one. They are pricey, but SAN makes them.

I prefer to have the diopter on the rifle and then throw the Picatinny rail on in front.

My ACOG fits up there just fine and the diopter sits perfectly in the space below.

I get the same fit with my Elcan M145 on the flattop rail. The quick detach mount allows use of the diopter and the M145 mount does maintain its zero. Its not as convenient as a co-witness setup but the lowered optic, as a trade off, is worth it. The diopter is there, if needed.
 
Move to the 21st century - your aimpoint is the main sight and the iron is just a backup.

now, why will you setup to optimize the backup system instead of the main sighting system??

Get a rail flattop, there shouldn't be even a debate on this issue!
