hi looking for opinon on 280ai in Cooper or sako 85 7mm both in synthic stock
looking for quailty and some thing with a clip! and hunting from distance
nothing like a tank the carry!! haha !! your thoughts!!!!!!:sniper:

I have both,I think the 280 Akl Improved is one of the best going.
It is easy to load for and is very accurate.

Ballistically, the 7mm Rem Mag has the edge.

7RM brass is more readily available than rady formed 280AI brass (but it does exist)

280AI is probably cooler.

I'd go with whichever rifle you liek the best.
 
The 7mm Rem Mag is minimum 200 fps faster than the 280AI...but you can't deny the cool factor of the 280AI, whether deserved or not...and the cool factor of the Cooper can't hurt matters....
 
I am looking in the same direction for my next rifle. The .280 has always caught my attention and I am debating between the .280 and 7mm Rem mag for my next rifle. The 280AI definetley has the cool factor.

I would go with the .280 AI, what barrel length do they recommend 24"? I see alot in 22".

both are fine firearms. neither take a clip.

Better buy 2 and keep 1 in your hunting jacket or pack.

Notorious thing about detachable magazines...they get left in the truck, back at the house or lost.:eek::wave:

I prefer internal box magazines myself....

As far as cartridges....

Take the 7mm it will out perform the .280 AI, and only has moderate increase in recoil.
 
Does anyone have a 7mm or .280AI that could take 10 round stripper clips. That there would be a winner. Especially in a non-restricted semi.
My next build will be the AI, for the cool factor. 200 FPS does not concern me that much.....but cool does concern me :)

IF you want cool why not a TRUE wildcat?



7mm based off .375 ruger, if you built one of these....then you would have COOL factor.

Or 7mm off a 416 Rigby case?

or

7mm Dakota
 
Out of your 2 rifle choices even though I like the 7mm Rem, I'd have to go with the Cooper because the 85's synthetic stock is just plain ugly & this coming from a Sako guy. Now if you got the 85 & stocked it with a McMillan then we are talking about a fine rifle.
 
My 7mm had feeding problems related to the belt. I'm sure your nice cooper or sako will be perfectly capable of feeding reliably, but why use a cartridge with a marginal, and practically unusable (for the average shooter) velocity margin with a useless/redundant cartridge feature at the expense of greater recoil?

Oh and btw, the sako 85's childproof mag is dumb. If you want a finnish gun get a T3. If you've got the money, get a cooper.
 
hi is there any manufacturer that blue prints there action true the barrel
or maybe i got them mixed up just a question?? or is it only done by a gunsmith?
 
I posted this elsewhere but

If you are going to reload there is a world of difference, a belted mag ctge case is very easy to cause head seperation with, at best low numbers in terms of reloading each case repeatedly - AI based cases because of the parallel walls have very little wear end to end and are normally reloadable many times more than even their parent cases let alone belted mags...also AI's will fire factory ammo no problem if you are ever stuck.

Just another opinion LOL
