Does anyone know where I can purchase a chrome AR-15 bolt carrier group in Canada? Either this one by Young Manufacturing; http://www.youngmanufacturing.net/product-info.php?pid75.html or something similar?

I was bored today, so I took my bolt, a high speed polishing wheel, some compound and went to town......polished it up real nice, not a mirror finish, didn't spend that much time on it (might latter) but it came out shiny, and I put it back, and am a bit disappointed....

why

well you don't really see it once it's back in the firearm.....

ohhhhh well, I had fun, in polishing if nothing else...

lol - wait til it starts rusting out of control....

What you did was remove the magphosphate from your bolt carrier...

Effectively ruining any corrosion protection you had.

yup, you are correct.....keeping it oiled up will help, but I was looking at getting another bolt anyways, so this was done, just to see the look of it.

cheaper to experiment on a cheaper piece, than use a more expensive one, and really be disappointed.

I will look at having it jeweled as well, this will add a bit of bling to it, but still no protection....

lots of silica pads in the gun case, should offer me some protection....:)

If you can't find one in Canada and you don't need it right away (and don't mind doing some paperwork)... there's always Brownells.

I've been considering doing that as I don't need it right away. I'm gathering parts for my first build. What exactly is involved in the process? I need to fill out some DSP-83 form for exporting from the US? How does that work, who do I send it to? Is that the only paperwork involved. I don't need an import permit do I? Is there any additional cost involved in this paperwork?

Thanks!

Sandblast and duracoat/armacoat it. Seeing how well those finishes hold up would be a better experiment IMO :)

The Carrier you have pictured is the Young NM. They also make a standard style. The NM carrier is about 1/2 oz heavier and more surface area to rid ein bore of upper. I found mine was actually a tighter fit than my other carriers. If you want a chrome carrier you can get their NM AR-15 from Brownells. If you want a standard carrier they have Smith Enterprise AR and M16 carriers that are chrome

The Y/M i have is waaaay easier to clean than the standard phos coated. The Y/M key is not well staked. This carrier is very pricey

I think if you want a easier to clean carrier, the JP Enterpise is a good choice and doesn't look blingy. It has a black hard coat over stainless also available from Brownells. Cleans up easy as well
