Reading a bit about these guns. They are like the Vanguards but apparently have a much nicer trigger. Any trigger I've tried on a vanguard was so-so at best.

Does anyone have some first hand experience with the Howa 1500 ? How are they trigger wise , accuracy wise and quality wise ?

Thanks

The weatherby vanguard, mossberg 1500, 1550, 1700 and the S&W 1500 are all howa 1500's. My wife has a very nice custom built on a 1550 action. Prior to that I had shot a dozen or so deer with it before it was rebuilt good rifle.
I personaly think they are the best deal in rifles at the moment. The trigger is easily adjustable

I had one in 22-250. Great trigger, very accurate. All in all a great rifel especially for the price.

I have a newer Heavy Barrel varminter in 223, and the trigger is quite good, far better than most domestics, but not on par with the best of the best. They are adjustable, but I have left mine where it is, its light enough out of the box for me. Quailty is still the same as it has been for at least 20 years, the bluing is not as deep as most companies, but they work well, and are well made.
An Islander with a deer rifle...theres a joke there somewhere.

ive got one in .223, heavy barrell, pepper laminate thumbhole stock

shot a couple of 1/4 moa groups, but mainly around the 1/2 moa mark , no modifications, falcon glass

One thing to note is that the Howa is available in .300 Wby Mag - so you know full length magnum cartridges will work in them without much/any modification.

Who's carrying Howa's ?( Read that as best price) WWS and Cabelas don't seem to have any. I'd love a varmint style in .223.

Instead of buying one "varmint style" consider buying it basic, then getting a really nice replacement stock from either boyds or rifle-accuracy.com. I think you'd save a lot of money that way, plus get the satisfaction of putting thexwork into it. That's what I'm about to do with my newest addition (vanguard 223)

Would you think it would be better (more cost efficient) to buy lets say a Stevens 200 and put a good stock and bedding job on it than to buy the Howa ?

I want to be able to hit a 6" circle at 300M with five quick shots ( bolt action not semi) where the only thing that can screw up is me.

Howa

Been shooting S&W 1700LS (made by Howa) 270WCF for 25 years. Taken whitetails, mulies, antelope, elk and moose. Never a problem with the gun, very accurate, easily adjustable trigger. Excellent gun, good price.
