Savage 93 in 17 hmr hmmmm?

I'm liking the accu stock on the newer models.... should be interesting to see what they come up with! In the final stages of a buy for a 17hmr in 93 BV....

So they have the 17 and the 20 grain bullets... from what I read the 17 grain with the polymer tips seem to be deadly...you tube has some nezt links on tests etc...

Any thoughts on brand that you guys find agree with the guns the most?

I'm guessing Hornady all around!!!!

Hornandy 17 grain is what mine likes the best.
I've heard others have better luck with the 20 grain, especially in the less supportive plastic stocks.

The accustock is nice, but all the centerfires I've seen so far still have a little "wiggle" room to them. They still require a moderate amount of bedding.
It'll be interesting to see what the rimfires are like.

I had a Savage 93 with stainless barrel and polymer stock and I sold it, this was the first time I EVER regretted selling a gun, so I went out and bought another Savage because I wouldnt think of buying any other brand in 17 HMR, I love my thumbhole stocked Savage 93. 17 grain groupings are ridiculously accurate and hit hard for such a small round.

I have the same model, left hand S/S, (new to this calibre) your best ammo-results info would be helpfull.
Does the barrel resonator help? allways prefered two piece bases, does the one piece
improve consistancy on this rifle.
How often would you recomend cleaning in terms of rounds fired.
Thanks, Richard.

I bought the 93 R 17 about 3 yrs ago.

Great fun to shoot, I absolutly LOVE mine..... The only problem was..... I was going throgh too much ammo, it was so fun to shoot I was shooting it all the time.

So I bought a MKII FV as well. Both are identical to each other, both Accu-trigger, both synthetic, both are really accurate.

I shoot the 17 HMR at varmits and gophers etc. I use the MKII at the range for 'trigger' time....... Best of both worlds!

I have yet to find a 17HMR ammo that will not group well out of my Savage, so when I buy ammo I try to buy 2 or 3 bricks at once, dial in my scope and than I'm off to the gopher patch.

Cheers!

I am expecting mine this week... This is what sucks about living 3.5 hours outside the city... I bought some feds... will try those out, Hornady's are what i will feed it most likely in the end... My tracking number ended in Edmonton on the 26th... what the hell does Canada Post do with the tracking numbers!!!! Grrrrr....

Same Ammo Manufacturer?

I love my Savage thumbhole 17....It wears the Bushnell Legend 5-15x40. In regards to the ammo, I read somewhere that CCI makes all the ammo and just packages it differently. That is why the boxes also all look the same. After shooting both Hornady and Rem and seeing no difference I tend to believe it

Mine seems to like the hornady 17 and 20 gr ammo better than anything else. I've tried federal, winchester, and cci and I'll stick with hornady. Not a big difference in group size but enough to notice.

.17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire .. was first made by.. you guessed it .. Hornady

CCI jumped on board pretty quick and has the widest range of .17hmr ammo available.. ie. polymer tip, hollowpoint, Varmint TnT, FMJ, and in different weights .
i prefer ( and so does my rifle ) CCI

I bought a wood stock 93 with thumbhole and stainless barrel. It has made my .22 obsolete. Completely and utterly.
I topped it off with a 3-9x50 Bushnell, and without wind out to 250 yards is deadly deadly on gophers. Mine tends to prefer the 17 grain rounds. Nothing better than squeezing that accutrigger, hearing crack, then a second later seeing that beautiful pink mist +150 yards down range.

I have the stainless laminate thumbhole .17 HMR from Savage, it wears a Bush. 6500 4.5-30 power and like it for gophers to 200yds. I find that the best I can do is just under 1" for 5 shots at 100yds, with any of the ammo I have tried.

Got mine, and I like it... I am still lookiong for a good scope for it.... Plinking in the woods does not do it justice of course... cant wait to get to the range and play! Why does work always get in the way!!! Was out to the camp over the weekend and the federals absolutely tore up a full can of coke.... that was cool. Now to smoke something in the varmit department!

Have the left handed 9317, monte carlo stock heavy barrel, it shoots beautifully. Likes winchester 20g hps and hornady 17g v-max, both under 3/4" groups at 100 yards :)
