Your opinions on choosing my next shotgun

Im currently in the market for a new Semi shotgun i currently have a remington 870 express magnum with a 28 inch barrel with a mod choke its been a great gun but im getting serious in waterfowl hunting its pretty much all i do when i can :D
I want a good quality gun that will work great for ducks in a blind and for field hunting for geese and i will be putting a Pattern Master choke on whichever gun i buy and preferably with a 3 1/2' capability but the only thing is i dont wnat to spend over $1500 lower would be better cause im still in college lol
The ones i had in mind were the Winchester SuperX3 with 26" barrel in duckblind, Browning Maxxus or a Remington 11-87 supermag and i doesnt have to be brand new if anyone has a used gun in real good condition that they recomend and would sell let me know

I would love to hear what everyone thinks cause i want a quality gun that will last me and that will be reliable in the field

Just goto the store pick them up, push them to your shoulder and feel how good they feel and how well of a sight picture they give you.

Can't go wrong with an SX3. The Duratouch coat on the waterfowl models is amazing and the SX3 has the best composite stock feel and finish. IMO!
 
Beretta xtrema 2 is a really nice gun. it can do it all ( as any shotgun over $1000 SHOULD be abel to ). I can cycle anything from the cheapest target loads right up to 3 1/2 inch magnums without a hick-up. The aqua tek coating is really nice as it will protect the gun from the elements.

If you choose a xtrema without the kick-off ( which is not really necessary anyway ) it would be within your budget
 
Al of the above are good reliable. Personally, I like the new Browning Maxus. However, the best advice I can give you is to go to gunshops and buy the one that fits/feel best. If you shoulder several guns the one that you should buy is the one that you have an immdiate sight picture and dn't have to hunt for it. The trick is to close both eyes bring the gun to your shoulder, open your eyes --- you should only see the rear of the action and the front bead and no rib. Some guns come with adjustment shims so you can fit it for yourself. Remenber, you don't aim a shotgun at birds -- you point. Buy the one that fits -- that's the one you will shoot best.

Forget the 3 1/2" unless you want to go to a 10 ga. Any 3 1/2" 12 ga shotguns I have used simply didn't work as well (drop ducks) as when I used 3" in them.

If the 870 fits you and you shoot well with it, I'd go for an 11-87 (not the Supermag). I prefer a 30" barrel but shoot a 28" well. I don't shoot 26" barrels well at all. Remingtons fit me well and I shoot them well. I tried a Browning Gold Fusion and shot it well enough but there was just something I didn't like, probably the magazine cutoff. Traded it in for a 12 ga Wingmaster.

From my own experience don't blow the budget on a semi. Save money for a case or two of ammo. I found I was going through a lot more shells with about the same amount of birds to show for it. LOTS of fun though!!

I went to the gunshop the yesterday night and i picked up most of the guns i had in mind and the one that felt the best was the SX3 i just felt awesome came up real easy and the bead was right there i didtn have to fus around to find it. And it felt nice when i wanted to swing it. It was nice and light and was the most comfortable to me. The browning maxxus was second but didnt fit me as nice. And ive decided that i dont really need a 3 1/2 ive always used a 3 inch and its worked just fine i can shot 3 inch all day without getting soar

I have a SX3 that is 2 years old lined up with a long range pattern master choke on it and it fits my budget alot nicer then a new one :D
Is there any difference with this years model and the older ones ?

I do not think there is any change in the guns. Other than winchester added a couple different models.
 
I was in the same quandry this spring, only my price point was lower. I didn't even look at the Benelli's or Beretta's.

I wound up ordering a Bakail MP-153 from Ellwood Epps. Cost was under $500 to my door. It comes with 4 choke tubes. IC, M, F, XF.

I used this fall for Upland game (shooting 2 /34" shells) and for ducks (shooting 3") and for geese (shooting 3 1/2" shells). It works for all those shell sizes quite well.

Over all I am fairly impressed with the shotty . I have about 750 rnds of trap through it and about 150(ish) while hunting and I have yet to have a problem with it.

I see you're in Kingston.

Have you been around the shotgun club at all? If not you may want to visit one day.

there are some hunters there that are fairly knowledgeable about hunting guns. ask them and see what they're using.

If I'm not mistaken there may even be a few good used ones for sale around there.

Stop by some time and talk with the guys....you may get some good info....maybe even a good gun at a good price.

I've heard some fairly good reviews on the Stoeger semi....Model 2000 I think. Not sure. Talked with a guy a while back you runs a guiding service...he swore by it....says it works great all day long...never any problems. One I looked at looked decent...price was not too bad either. Available at Quinte Outdoor Sports in Belleville.

Just a thought.

Very good advice. There is a 12 ga Browning BPS now in EE for $400 ish with many interchangable chokes, long enough barrel, bottom eject capability. Quality is second to none. And no, I am not related to the seller.

Winchester ammunition is still owned by Olin. Winchester hasn't made a firearm since approx 1981. Winchester firearms have been made under license by US Repeating Arms from 1981 until 2006. US Repeating Arms/Browning/FN Herstal purchased the use of the Trade Name rights of Winchester and produces Winchester branded firearms today. Olin still owns the Winchester trade name.

Browning has pretty much been an off shore company since before WWII with FN Herstal manufacturing virtually all of their firearms. In 1992 GIAT (a French firm) purchased FN Herstal/Browning/US Repeating Arms and sold it 5 years later to the Walloon Regional Government of Belgium, the current owner. Browning USA is pretty much a marketing/distribution firm. Miroku of Japan is making most of the Browning firearms and Winchester semi-auto shotguns and rifles, thus the similarities between the Browing GOLD/Silver and the Winchester SX3. The Model 70 is made in the USA by Fabrique Nationale Manufacturing Inc. (FNMI).

The new Winchester pumps are made by Yildiz of Turkey.
